Depeche Mode: Precious Meaning
Precious Lyrics
Need special handling
My God what have we done to you
We always tried to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But...
-
I think is about a child who's being living with egoistic, egocentrinc and "unable" parents .The hope is probably that he wont get affected by that shit in the future.
-
This song was written by Martin Gore, and precious is the pain and suffering his children have had to endure the divorce.

i think it's about the murder of shanda sharer
-
it's about the children whose parents fight and leave each other. the 'my god what have we done to you.' part is the parents going why did we hurt these children so. 'things get damaged, things get broken.' implies to the children's feelings. this entire song talks about kids who have only one mother because the dad left. the remix is good too. this song is my favorite with enjoy the silence. enjoy the silence is about deep passionate love. in a true way not intimate. and this song is about kids whose dads leave them in a divorce from the moms.
-
I think this also applies to anyone who has been damaged by a relationship. It's hard to come out of a bad relationship and know how to trust...after the damage, after being broken.....
-
Precious is a song to the children whose parents have split up.
‘You’ in the song means the children, and ‘we’ refers to the parents who are no longer together:
“We always tried to share
The tenderest of care
Now look what we have put you through…
…I pray you learn to trust
Have faith in both of us”
The “keep room in your hearts for two” lyric is reassuring the children that both parents will still be in their lives – though the situation isn’t the same anymore, the love should remain the same.
