Fall Out Boy: Alone Together Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Alone Together Lyrics
But do you got room for one more troubled soul?
I don't know where I'm going but I don't think I'm coming home
And I said I'll check in tomorrow if I don't wake up dead
This is the road to ruin
And we're...

#1 top rated interpretation:I don't know where you're going,
But do you got room for one more troubled soul
(doesn't much care about what he's doing with his life, but if they've got anyone, (doesn't even need much, is just depressed) the he's on)
I don't know where I'm going,
But I don't think I'm coming home
(Knows that home it not where he needs to go right now.)
And I said, I'll check in tomorrow if I don't wake up dead
(He'll be happy if he just wakes up alive tomorrow)
This is the road to ruin and we're starting at the end
(This is not going to end well, and I've already reached the end. It can only get better
Say, yeah
Let's be alone together
We could stay young forever
Scream it from the top of your lungs, lungs, lungs
(So, he meats this girl/boy and he figures that he is so depressed right now that he might at well get a little drunk, have some sex, and scream)
Say, yeah
Let's be alone together
We can stay young forever
We'll stay young, young, young, young, young
(Young, young, young. Someones paranoid about getting older. The weight of responsibility is to much and he wishes he could just let it go, so, Yes, he is very troubled)
Uh, uh, uh, uh-oh
Uh, uh, uh, uh-oh
Uh, uh, uh, uh-oh
Uh, uh, uh, uh-oh
(Uh, uh, uh, uh-oh)
Cut me off,
(Cut of of drugs, beer, money? Something he now has to do without)
I lost my track
(He fells like he is on the wrong road)
It's not my fault, I'm a maniac
(He can't help it, this is just who he is. A crazy person who doesn't give a shit)
It's not funny anymore, no it's not
(Now he has to get down to business. life isn't a game, there are bills to pay and jobs to keep. He's got to be serious)
My heart is like a stallion,
(He can not be tamed)
they love it more when it's broken
(When a horse is broken, it obeys you. People like him more when they can controls him, and he's calm, not his natural craziness)
Do you wanna feel beautiful, do you wanna, yeah
(He's saying, "Do you want to feel special? Well, yeah. Me too" but it doesn't happen like that)
I'm outside the door, invite me in
(I'm alone, can I join you?)
So we can go back and play pretend
(So we can go back to our childhood and pretend were children and don't have a care in the world)
I'm on deck, yeah I'm up next
(I'm next for the good stuff. My turn now)
Tonight I'm high as a private jet
(Drug reference?)
I really like this song because to me, it talks about being at the bottom, not caring about anything, and the finally realizing This is the road to ruin (disaster) and I'm already there, so I can only go up. Of course you could also interpret it to mean that he has reached the ned of his life and will now die. But I like the other way -
I think it’s about someone who kind of is depressed trying to feel better through a relationship with someone else with the same problems as them. “this is the road to ruin and we’re starting at the end”, like they’re already messed up but they’re getting better (starting at the end- like going back to being not ruined) + “my heart is like a stallion, they like it more when it’s broken” -they don’t want to be heartbroken anymore even though that’s what people want from them
-
It’s also a reference to one of their songs in infinity on high: do you know who I think I am. During the last part of the song you can faintly hear Patrick singing “walking down on memory lane, alone together we’re alone.”

I feel like this song is about someone who is troubled in some way (a troubled soul.) They don't really know where they are going in life (ie: I don't know where I'm going, but I don't think I'm coming home.) It seems like this person could possibly be depressed and turning to drugs (ie: Tonight I'm high as a private jet.) At some point they meet someone (ie: I don't know where you're going, but do you got too for one more troubled soul,) and get help.
I don't know if this is right, since most Fall Out Boy songs have some sort of deeper meaning, and this is mostly just a surface meaning. -
