Bang the Doldrums Lyrics

I wrote a goodbye note in lipstick on your arm,
When you passed out.
I couldn't bring myself to call,
Except to call it quits.

Best friends.
Ex-friends till the end.
Better off as lovers,
And not the other way around.
Racing...

I think the first verse he's talking about the realtionship ending. The chorus is saying how thngs will never be the same and they can never be friends only lovers. It also talks about old memories when it says"racing through the city windows down".then in the second verse I think he's saying how he couldnt really commit to her which was why it was over. Also he's kind of desperate when it says"come hell or high water"."I cast a spell over the west to make you think of me the same way I think of you this is a love song in my own way hapily ever after below the waist" is probably referring to hoping that she never forgets about him like he'll never forget about her and probably something about a sexual relationship because below the waist. But then again its whatever pete says it is.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

"I wrote a goodbye note in lipstick on your arm
    When you passed out
I couldn't bring myself to call
    Except to call it quits"

-- basically saying that his ex girlfriend passed out so then he wrote in lipstick on her arm that it was over.

    "Best friends
    Ex-friends till the end
    Better off as lovers
And not the other way around
    Racing through the city
    Windows down
In the back of yellow checkered cars"

-- While they were dating, they were like best friends. now that its over, they don't even talk to each other anymore, and most likely hate each other because that's how most ex's are. and "not the other way around" part means that they were better off dating then hating each other.

    This city says...

    "Come hell or high water
Well I'm feeling hot and wet
    I can't commit to a thing
    Be it heart or hospital"

-- Meaning he couldn't commit to anything, wheather it was love or an emergency.

    "The tombstones were waiting
    They were half-engraved
    They knew it was over
    Just didn't know the date"

This meaning that everyone, including them, knew that their relationship was coming to a bitter end, they just didn't know the exact date it was gonna happen.

"And I cast a spell over the west to make you think of me
The same way I think of you
This is a love song in my own way
Happily ever after below the waist"

-- this part I could be completely wrong about. but it means I think anyways, that he's going to make her hate him the same way he hates her. [or make her feel the same way about him he feels about her, wheather its hate or not]. The "this is a love song in my own way" I think goes along with the other part "happily ever after below the waist." meaning that she got a new boyfriend and they were dating for sex, so he pretended to be happy for her or write her and her new boyfriend a "love" song when its not that at all, and that he knows they won't be together happily because they are just in it for the sex.

I think that this song is about a relationship that is meant to be, but the guy can't commit to it. He liked the girl but he's not sure if he loves her hence the "this is a love song in my own way" but the relationship was based on sex, hence the "happily ever after below the waist"

What I think it means is that they are friends (duh) remembering the times they spent as friends.

They are lovers, but have problems so that's why they are "ex-friends to the end,"

    Complicated love relationship.
