"I'm coming apart at the seams, pitching myself for leads in other peoples dreams"

I want to be like other people and I want to do what they want me to do (so they will love me).

"now buzz buzz buzz doc there's a hole where something was"

Basically just a way of saying I feel empty and doing what other people want isn't good enough for me anymore.

The first verse is pretty much about being misunderstood."But him in the back of a squad car restrain that man, he needs his head put through a cat scan" But despite being misunderstood I feel like I have a good message that people need to hear "Hey editor Im undeniable.Hey doctor Im certifiable"

"I'm a loose bolt of a complete machine"

    I don't fit in/function normally with others

"What a match I'm half doomed and your semi-sweet"

I'm not perfect because I don't fit in, but your not perfect because you can't love/appreciate me anyway. Could be talking about a specific person or society as a whole, and I don't think its supposed to be clear as to which.

    Then in the chorus
    "Boycott love"

Is saying screw all the bullshit of trying to please people.

    "Detox just to Retox"

Trying to earn peoples love and affection is a vicious cycle that doesn't get anyone anywhere

"And I'd promise you anything for another shot at life"

I wish for another shot where people would love and appreciate me (I regret how things have turned out"

"Imperfect boys with their perfect lives nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedies."

All these people I want so badly to please really don't care about anything serious, me, or what I'm all about.

The second verse is a little less clear. I think its basically an extended metaphor talking about how people want you to sell out. For example "painted dolls on the highway" "all the rookies leave your badge and your god on the desk when you leave the room" Im not really good at explaining it but just look at the lyrics and I think you'll see what I mean.

That's pretty much it. I hope no one thinks Im an idiot who horribly misinterpreted this. And for a horribly corny ending: Long Live Car Crash Hearts :)

It’s about feeling empty, wanting to do your life over, to be someone else, and feeling like no one gets you (except for one person, “I’m half doomed and you’re semi sweet”- If you’re into peterick check the genius annotations on this one haha)

the “pitching myself for leads in other people’s dreams” is trying to be something for other people instead of yourself because you don’t like who you are. “Detox just to retox” is trying to change but still making bad decisions. The second first I think is like making reckless decisions to find meaning in your life

Pete Wentz said he wrote the lyrics for this song about an incident in the summer of 2007.

FOB was playing Pukkelpop, a festival in Belgium, and he drank too many local Belgian beers. Result: a blackout and a head wound. (It didn't happen while performing.)

This he told on stage 6 years later, while they played Pukkelpop again in 2013.

At the front of the song, the protagonist is telling us that he is mentally unstable, and that he has ruined his life beyond repair. All his dreams are now impossible to attain, which is why he is "pitching himself leads in other people's dreams." Also, the "hole where something was" could mean that he now has no dreams/goals.

Next is a flashback where the protagonist fell out of bed and injured himself while he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He is given the butterfly bandage while in the hospital. After he fell out of bed, while still under the influence, he committed some sort of crime, and was arrested by the local police. The crime made the papers: "Hey editor, I'm undeniable." The protagonist is taken after the hospital after being arrested, where he is given a CAT scan and has his wound (from earlier) bandaged.

"I'm a loose bolt" indicates that the protagonist is mentally ill.

"I'm half doomed and you're semi-sweet" refers to the fact that he is under the influence, and also that he is in the company of someone he is sexually interested in.

"Boycott love" indicates that the crime was relationship-motivated, most likely domestic violence.

"Detox just to retox" shows that the protagonist is obviously a drug/alcohol abuser, and has had several failed attempts at becoming clean.

"I'll promise you anything for another shot at life" is the protagonist's plea before the judge to go easy on him.

"Imperfect boys with their perfect ploys, nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy" is the response from the judge, rebuking the protagonist's 'sing and dance'.

The next part is about another person, who is a truck driver. We will call him 'The Trucker'. He is eliciting sex from an underage prostitute. He wonders if he is being set up: "Was that just a telescopic camera nob?" He is at a truck stop frequented by prostitutes. "Lot lizard scale" is street talk for "drug-addicted prostitute at a truck stop" and the "night-life moods" refer to how truckers get lonely at night. "All you rookies leave your badge and your gun on the desk when you leave the room" indicates that this was indeed a stakeout, and that the trucker and the prostitute are being filmed and watched from a remote location. The trucker is arrested for solicitation.

"I'm a loose bolt" indicates that the trucker is mentally ill.

"I'm half doomed and you're semi-sweet" means that the trucker has done something that he regrets, probably in a past relationship, and that he is basically taking whatever he can get, in this case, a prostitute.

"Boycott love" may refer to the trucker's cynical view of relationships.

"Detox just to retox" shows that the trucker has solicited sex before, and that he has attempted to stop, although he failed.

"I'll promise you anything for another shot at life" is the protagonist's plea before the judge to go easy on him.

"Imperfect boys with their perfect ploys, nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy" is the response from the judge, rebuking the trucker's 'sing and dance'.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

"I'm coming apart at the seams"
Fall Out Boy is falling apart.

"Pitching myself in leads for other people's dreams"
Trying to get people to open up to Patrick going solo.

"So boycott love, detox just to retox"
Try to get rid of it, but you end up falling in love again.

"I'm a loose bolt of a complete machine."
This is just a small part of all of his talents.

"Fell Outta Bed, Butterfly Bandage, But Don't Worry." Somethings In Life Are Accidents, But Turn Out Working Out For The Better. "Hey Editor, I'm Undeniable, Hey Doctor I'm Certifiable" Is Talking About How They Go To A Recording Studio Alot, And Sometimes The Recorders Hate The Music And Want To Change It A Ton And That Fall Out Boy Would Do Anything You Ask, As Long As You Pay Them. Even Experimental Surgery. "I'm A Loose Bolt Of A Complete Machine" Means They Don't Know Where They Stand In Society. "What A Match I'm Half Doomed And Your Semi-Sweet." Is Talking About How Pete Almost Attempted Suicide At Age 27, And Was Having Hard Times With Ashlee Simpson At The Same Time. "So Boycott Love" Means That Love Doesn't Always Work Out, And Sometimes You Just Want It To Stop. "Detox Just To Retox" Means That Sometimes You'll Try To Stop Something, But You Fail And End Up Right Back Where you Started. "And I'd Promise You Anything For Another Shot At Life" Is Talking About How Pete Wanted To Kill Himself Then Relizaed That He Won't Get Another Shot At Life, And He Was Actually Doing Pretty Good At Life. "Im Perfect Boys With Their Perfect Lies" Is Talking About How Some People Hate Fall Out Boy, But Fall Out Boy Can Sometimes Get Them To Be A Fan. "Nobody Wants To Hear You Sing About Tragedy" Means Once Again, That Some People Hate Fall Out Boy. "Little Girl, Got Me Staring Out" Is Talking About How You Sometimes Stare At A Girl That You Like Forever. "Or Was That Just A Telescopic Camera Nod?" Is Saying How Some People Think That They Have Fame Waiting For Them, Show Off, And Then People Are Wondering What The Heck They are Doing. "Painted Dolls In The Hallway" Is Talking About How Some People Get Manipulated Like Dolls Easily. "Truck Stop Stalls" Is Talking About How The Band Has To Stop At Truck Stalls While On Tour. "Lot Lizard Scales For Your Night Time Moods" Means Sometimes The Band Stop In The Middle Of Nowhere, In The Middle Of Night, And It's Normal For Them.
