Fall Out Boy: Grand Theft Autumn Meaning
Song Released: 2003
Grand Theft Autumn Lyrics
I hope, he is a gentleman..
And maybe he won't find out what I know:
You were the last good thing about this part of town..
When I wake up-
I'm willing to take my chances on
The hope I forget that you hate him...
-
I think this one is about when *FOB member* runs into his old ex girlfriend and he's trying to be all polite and awkward. He probably still has feelings for her. So he just runs into on the street or whatever and he's all "where's your boyfriend? I hope he's nice to you" and they have this awkward talk.
-
It's about a guy in love with a superficial girl with a boyfriend that doesn't deserve her
and the guy singing the song wants her, and knows that he's good for her -
ONCE AGAIN POEPLE COME ON HERE AND TRY TO INTERPRETATE FALL OUT BOYS SONGS YOU PEOPLE MAKE THESE SONGS SOUND BAD YOU A DIS-CREDIT TO YOUR OWN LIFE.
-
I think it is about a girl who is obsessed with a guy "Where is your boy tonight?" who is a really big jerk ,"I'm still tryin which is more than I can say for him" and the narrator really likes her , but doesn't want to say anything about it because of the other guy. "Something I'd appreciate in value, get off my ass and call you."
-
I think this song is about a boy who knows more about this girl than her boyfriend does and that her boyfriend is cheating on her and he wants her to be with him instead of with her boyfriend for ex. "where is your boy tonight?" why isn't your boyfriend here with you? "I hope he is a gentleman" I hope he's not cheating on you. "maybe he won't find out what I know" maybe I'll always know you better. "you were the last good thing about this part of town" your one of the good things about this part of town.
"you need him I could be him" if you need someone I can be that someone. That's my interpretation even if it's not a good one. -
I'm someone who also looks at the title. Obviously it's a play on the game Grand Theft Auto, in which the point is to steal cars. Autumn can be the name of a girl. The song is about a guy who stole a girl from him who was possibly named Autumn.
But then you think about this. Pete writes the lyrics for Patrick to sing. "where is your boy? I could be him. Maybe he won't find out what I know." Sounds a little kinky to me.
P.S. Pete, or Patrick, if you're reading this... I am so, so, so sorry. My friend put it into my head and I can't get it out. LOVE BOTH OF YOU GUYS SO DEEPLY FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! -
*Where is your boy tonight?
- what is your boyfriend doing tonight, the singer is in the room with girl who is a friend
*I hope he is a gentleman.
- I hope he is gentle man , he hopes he is kind person who would not trip to see his girlfriend with another guy.
*Maybe he won't find out what I know:You were the last good thing about this part of town.
-meaning he won't be so lucky to find out that she is a nicest girl to have sex with in the town, he actually hopes this because he does not wants her to be with him.
*When I wake up,
- when he wake up after sleeping with her while her boyfriend was out
*I'm willing to take my chances on the hope I forgot
you hate him more than you notice I wrote this for you.
( For you so)
- meaning that he thinks he is no good for her, so he will take the chance that she will run back to him and he wrote this song to show how much she means to him
*You need him.
I could be him....
I could be an accident but I'm still trying.
That's more than I can say for him.
-this is the deepest part of the song, where he is asking if he (the other guy) is what she wants, he say I could be him , meaning he will stoup so low and he could be a mistake and that's more than I can say for him, meaning there is nothing more to say about this guy,he is nothing but an accident, what people like to call " a fall back, something for comeback after a relationship or some disappointment"
*Someday I'll appreciate in value,
get off my ass and call you...
- this seem straight forward but is actually a tricky line, my say is that, some day I will actually I will get over you and give you a call you so we can be friends
*But for the meantime I'll sport my brand new fashion
Of waking up with pants off at 4:00 in the afternoon.
- a twisted line I may add, I don't know but I could tell you that he trying to say, he will not stoup to being friends , he will savor his last days with her by either_ having sex with other girls or most likely masturbating over the last time they were together.....
*(We Wont Find It)
We Wont Find It
(We Wont Find It)
We Wont Find It
- omg , probably I am going mad but this is like the second maddest line of the song, if I am not correct, please correct me if I am wrong, he is actually degrading her boy friend by saying WE WONT FIND IT, meaning he is not sure her boyfriend is a girl or boy
WHAT DO YOU THINK < I am more of a opinion person , if you have any queries , email me at mikhail_stewart@hotmail.com -
i agree with what most people have said but do people think the verse
"Someday I'll appreciate in value
Get off my ass and call you
In the mean time I'll sport my brand new fashion
Of waking up with pants off at four in the afternoon"
is about?
i think it could either be fob trying to show how crap the boyfriend/other guy is at showing he likes a girl
or
or fob trying to show that he's not interested and could call the girl if he could be bothered
anyone else?? -
I think it's about a girl pete likes but she doesn't know he likes her, and she's seeing someone else." where is your boy tonight ?" its like the guy she's seeing isn't treating her right but pete isn't worried cause he thinks she could like him hence " Someday I'll appreciate in value
Get off my ass and call you
In the mean time I'll sport my brand new fashion
Of waking up with pants off at four in the afternoon "
Also you need him I could be him , I could be an accident but I'm still trying and that's more than I can say for him"
the guy she's seeing doesn't see interested. -
hey sorry to tell you guys but your all wrong.
this song is about a guy who is desperatly in love with this girl but the girl doesn't like him she likes this other guy who is really a dik head. Hence the "I could be him, I should be him". but she isn't interested. but the guy still trys really hard to get her love but it doesn't work. The meaning of the the chorus is....(were is your boy tonight)-the guy stands her up (I hope he is a gentle man)-he better be a really nice guy (gentleman) to make up for ditching you (and maybe he won't find out what I know)-that the girl is starting to hate him (that you were the last good thing about this part of town) this expresses the guys love for the girl. and as you can see from the film clip the good guy eventually wins =) -
I think the songs about Pete getting dumped and feeling sorry for himself and like he's never good enough. He keeps trying to show her he still wants to win her back cause that's how much he cares for her but she keeps ignoring him.
-
I think of it as the girl and guy being best friends and the guy being secretly in love with the girl but the girl is dating a guy that doesn't love her and is cheating on her. The guy says that he could be him and care and love her if she knew that she was 'the last good thing about this part of town.'

We're all pretty much saying the same thing over and over again. Typical song about the american romantic vigilante. Some loser american guy meets a american girl who he belives is "the one" however the girl is all ready in a relationship with someone else. So he plays her boyfriend down as being unworthy in attempts to justify their union. Ha, we all know how this will end up. She cheats on her w/ loser american guy, they hook up, reach a slump in their relationship and some other loser american guy starts the cycle over again.
