It's Hard to Say I Do When I Don't Lyrics

I speak fast and I'm not gonna repeat myself, no
So listen carefully to every word I say:
"I'm the only one who's gonna get away with making excuses today,

You're appealing to emotions that I simply do not have"
Blackmailed myself
(Cause I...

Feel free to tell me I'm putting too much weight on one line, but "I've got the red carpet blues" says to me that this song is about the relationship between him and his fans. "There's nothing in your head or pocket, throat or wallet.", there's nothing he could ever do to appease his fans, who will always be craving more, even mere hours after he releases a new album. No amount of quality or quantity that he could ever produce will prevent his fans from shooting him, from being disappointed in or hating him. "And everyone shakes to the beat with a barrel down their throat." But he'll try to satisfy everyone anyway because what else can he do? "You're appealing to emotions that I simply do not have." The guilt of it never being enough he can no longer feel (or tries to convince himself that he can't). "Blackmailed myself... give us all your inspiration." He can no longer be creative without the need for it to be sliced up and sold off. Anyway, perhaps food for thought.

This song has always kind of (to me, at least) seemed like its about forced and fake happiness. "and everyone shakes to the beat with a barrel down their throat" is like everyone is having a good time, but not genuinely, but if they fail to at least seem happy, they will have to face dire consequences.
It also kind of reminds me of a thing that a few of my friends have gone through, where they are depressed and/or upset and nobody does anything about it but tell them that their problems don't really matter and that they should just be happy, because that's what everyone should be.

So idont know, that's what I always think of.

"Put you hands in the air and don't make a sound but don't get the wrong idea We're gonna shoot you We're gonna shoot you.." in my perspective the song is kind of saying that at a wedding you'll hear the person marring the couple say IF ANYONE OBJECTS SAY IT KNOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE (or something like that)the man would raise his hand(as in he can't do it of course) and "they" will shoot him.... The person that isn't so great to commit in probably anything. Listen to the part after the lyric above and you'll catch my drift. BTW I LOVEEE FOB!

i think that this song is using the whole bank robbery/stick up thing as a metaphor for marriage/commitment. i think it's saying that you're pretty much selling yourself when you marry a person if you don't actually love them for the right reasons/you don't want to. and the red carpet blues is probably a metaphor for not wanting to commit because not a lot of celebrities do commit nowadays.

I think it's about never being able to love anyone for the right reasons and the loneliness it brings. It seems like he seeks merely inspiration from relationships because of which he fails to reciprocate the other person's feelings.
'you are pleading to emotions that i simply do not have"
at least that's what i got from all the robbery reference.

I think that this song is about a group of men who are going to rob a bank. One of them sees that his ex, and only true love, is one of the hostages. He has conflicted emotions about this. But he tries to go on with the robbery. That's just what I think, though. I'm probably wrong. :)
