Fall Out Boy: Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year Meaning
Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year Lyrics
It's just a matter of time until we're all found out
Take our tears and put them on ice
Cause I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the light
We're the therapists pumping through your...

personally, I like the song very much.
I didn't know what it had meant at first listen, but then I looked at the lyrics.
I think that it tells a story of being young, and growing up in your hometown. That it tells a story of how most people hate their own town for lies spread, and people, but love it at the same time. -
First, here's what the title is about:
Sophmore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year
A sophmore is a cd, so basically they're saying asking people "Does our cd suck or is it an awesome comeback?"
As for the song, it's all about Fall Out Boy's impact on it's fans and them asking for the fans' opinions. "Are we going up? Or just going down?" "We're the therapists pumping through your speakers..."
They're saying that they're trying to do better than ever and are ecpressing their love to the dedicated fans who have been there for them since the beginning. "But then we grew old..."
Fall Out Boy is also saying that they will always be and will keep making more cd's.
"We're the lifers here till the bitter end
Condemned from the start
Ashamed of the way
The songs and the words own the beating of our hearts" -
I think this song is about growing up and friends, too. "Are we growing up or just going down". It's almost like they are saying things that they wanted to be when they were younger or what they might become. "We're the therapists, pumping through your speakers" and "We're traveled like gypses". The friendship part is that, even though these friends are growing up and doing different things, they still would do anything for each other. "I would burn this city down to show you the light".

I think that this song is about growing up. I think that it is about two best friends getting through life. It is just a song about how beople change during their lifes, starting out as a kid coming back as someone else.

I kinda thought it meant that he'd do something drastic just to do her a small favor or show her something small, like a metaphor?
-
At a recent concert, Pete was talking about this song before playing it...and he attributed the meaning to his hometown of Wilamette, I...a Chicago Suburb
He quoted "this one's about our old town, a Chicago suburb, that is probably one of the most boring places ever, and how I wanted to burn that motherf***er to the ground"...this is clearly shown as in "i'd swear i'd burn this city down to show you the lights"
