Fall Out Boy: Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today Meaning
Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today Lyrics
And one just cause they’ll kill you sooner than my expectations
To my favorite liar, to my favorite scar (to my favorite scar):
“I could have died with you”
I hope you choke on those words, that...

#1 top rated interpretation:At a recent concert (it was awesome) Pete was talking about this song before he played and he said he wrote it directly after he went away for the weekend, and returned to find out his girlfriend of 3 years had been sleeping with two of his best friends. If you listen to the song it is obviously about how much he hates her for this, "I hope you choke on those words, that kiss, that bottle...", "Let's play this game, called when you catch fire I wouldn't piss to put you out"
He also shows how he hopes his friend(s) die with her "And when you wrap your car around that tree your makeup looks so great next to his teeth (his teeth"
I'm thinking this is the girl most of the songs are about...quoted from the questions and answers on www.falloutboyrock.com he says "she's the one that got away" when asked about the situation.

#2 top rated interpretation:"light that smoke
yeah one for giving up on me
one just because they'll kill you sooner then my expectations
to my favorite liar, to my favorite scar
"I could have died with you"
-- obviously meaning that his girlfriend cheated on him or "gave up on him" and she probably smokes and he's saying that the cigarette is going to kill her faster and he wants that. Its saying that she lied when she told him things like "I love you" or "I wanna die with you." pretty much referring to her wanting to marry him. but he thinks when she said that, it was all bullshit.
"I hope you choke on those words, that kiss, that bottle
confess
now ask yourself
get it out on the insides
said I love you but I lied"
-- he hopes she chokes on every word that she ever said to him that she didn't mean, and that bottle probably refers to her drinking after he broke up with her. He's telling her to confess, and after he found out she cheated, he still said I love you, but he didn't really mean it.
"lets play this game, called when you catch fire
I wouldn't piss to put you out
stop burning bridges
and drive off of them
so I can forget about you."
-- he's saying that she doesn't mean anything to him and he wouldn't do anything for her even if she was burning in a fire. He wants her to stop forgetting about him and just to go away [or die] so he can stop thinking about her and all the memories.
"So bury me
in memory
his smiles your rope
so wrap it tight around your throat."
-- he's telling her to forget about him by getting together with one of the guys she cheated on him with, but by doing so he hopes she dies
"on the drive home
joke about the kid you used to see
and his jealousy
breaking hearts has never looked so cool
as when you wrap your car around a tree
your makeup looks so great next to his teeth"
-- he's telling her that when driving home from somewhere her and her new boyfriend are going to joke about how she cheated on him and how jealous he was when he found out. She's gonna think its so cool that she broke his heart that way, but he thinks it'd be cooler if her and her new boyfriend died by hitting a tree with their car. -
The song title is from the movie Rushmore.
In the movie a boy loves an older woman, and his older friend goes after her and he feels really betrayed.
The line "tell that stupid mick he just made my list of things to do today" is pretty irrelevant of the plot and the movie has a totally different tone than the song so its not really about this movie.
The song is obviously about pete and not the movie but thought i'd give some background -
One of my favorite songs. This is about how Morgan (Pete's girlfriend at the time) cheated on him with two of his friends while he was on tour, then left him a voice mail telling all about it.
-
It's about breaking up with somebody by text message...that's why there is a telephone in the beginning... Pete's girlfriend cheated on him, and broke with him after she had another boyfriend, one of Pete's best friends!
-
I can easily agree with all of you in saying that this song is oviously about a guy whos girlfriend was not as loyal as he had expected and cheated on him cause that's what she does (just to add on) - by the way, where's "the (after) life of the party"?
-
The song title is from the movie Rushmore. In the movie the main character says "tell that stupid mick he just made my list of things to do today."
-
"stop burning bridges
and drive off of them"
- she may of used the excuse of cheating on him that she was just looking at her options and trying to narrow them down to find 'the one', (eg - the expression "burning bridges") he is telling her to stop searching with other guys and just, well, go and die basically -
Hey, stop writing such long interpretations! That's my job. I just love this song. It totally describes the feeling I feel towards my ex-boyfriend. If he caught fire, (got himself into trouble) I wouldn't help him out. He was a jackass and needs to accept that! This song is saying just that. Live with the crap you created for yourself.

^^^great interpretation I was gonna say the same exact thing.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
