Fall Out Boy: The Last Of The Real Ones Meaning
Song Released: 2017
The Last Of The Real Ones Lyrics
And then I found you
And then I found you
You are the sun and I am just the planets
Spinning around you
Spinning around you
You were too good to be true
Gold plated
But what's inside you
But...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song strikes me as obviously him being in love, but moreso maybe than she is. She has other things she is dedicated to, other people depending on her and makes a lot of sacrifices, but he doesn't want to be one of them. He knows she's the last of her kind, and he doesn't want to lose her forever. He wants to know if she thinks about him as much as he thinks of her, and while he asks if her therapist knows everything about him, I get the feeling his therapist knows everything about her. He isn't even sure that he's the only one she loves, but he wants her to tell him he is anyway, "even if it's not true." He sees them together forever, their names etched in concrete until the end of infinity. She appears dedicated to giving herself away to help people, possibly extremely trusting, and he says he will protect her, both from giving so much of herself that she loses herself and from those who don't deserve her trust. He's willing to do anything to prove his love, to convince her to stay with him util the end of infinity. She's just the last of the real ones.

#2 top rated interpretation:i honestly don't know. i feel like this song is about needing someone so much you can't or don't want to imagine living without them.
it's putting them before everyone else, being willing to go to the edge, and further with them.
it's also the feeling of loving more in a relationship. i was always told to do less in a relationship. care less, love less, invest less to prevent getting hurt.
i think this song is about being completely vulnerable, open with another being. loving them no matter what, needing them.
there's a reason this is my all time favorite song. it's the rawness that it was written with that i admire. -
I think it can talk about a lot of things, and this is why this song is strong. You can listen to this and think about people you love a lot (friends, family, lovers).
But I'm more touched by the family interpretation according to my past, like parents talking about their child or children. I really like stars and planets and watching the night sky, so all the references about those speaks to me. But more of that, my parents have always had family conflicts, so it's like my parents were all alone, until they had me. "ultra-kind of love you never walk away from" is also a reference that you can never let away a love toward someone you consider as a family you've chosen (not only blood siblings, but any kind of people who've treated you as important to them).
Same for the themes like protecting someone, being a shield for them, being scared about what could happen to them or what they think about them, etc. -
Imagine that your future self (ideal one) is constantly saying that you don't give up. Don't be misguided by other stuffs. Your are the only one who can realize your dream self.
Buy this or not, this is my interpretation. -
To me, this seemed like he was almost obsessive of someone. (I'll refer to them as she just to make things less confusing.) First off, he talks about HER therapist knowing things about him, but this could mean he just talks about her all the time, almost showing a dependance. Next, he makes very deep comparisons, saying his world revolves around her, how he was "an only child of the universe" before he found her. The comparisons come off as almost stalker-like to me, since he shows no self-value, and talks as though she is his only reason of life.
That said, it also seems as though this person he's singing about doesn't feel the same way. "Tell me I'm the only one even if it's not true". He says he needs her, and seems desperate. "I'm here in search of your glory" and "you're the last of a dying breed" give me that interpretation too.
I always thought of the lyrics in this way because it makes the most sense to me, but a lot of the other descriptions were pretty valid too. -
I agree for the most part that he loves her to no bounds and etc. However, when i first heard the lyrics, my interpretation was that this love and relationship he is talking about isnt a healthy one and more of a codependent one. He is so blindly in love with her that he couldnt live without her. Aslo, he seems to be codependent on someone that doesnt seem to share that same amount of love, making it even more of an unhealthy relationship

I feel like this song might be about how they are one of the last original rock bands. Now everyone is listening to pop music and there are getting fewer and fewer rock singers. That's where I think they get "You're the last of a dying breed" from.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

This song really touches me in a special way ;) My best dude friend ever wanted me to listen to this song and I really have never heard fall out boys but when I listed to it I was pretty sure it was his saying that he liked me I hope he really feels that way because I like him a lot!!!! But he has a gf:(
Fall out is trying to say how much this person means to them and that they will do anything for them ;and they realize they love them and they want to spend eternity with that loved one. -
i think the meaning of the song is...
loving someone so much, you'd do anything for them, even if it hurts you, since you see this person as someone so unique you can never find another one of his/her's kind.
i think? i'm not sure tho -
They are all of my dad's

I think this song is about loving or giving an importance to someone and you really mean it like you're end up like risking your life for that person or people.
-
I think that the song is about a person that is devoted to another that’s special and one of a kind
