Finch: What It Is To Burn Meaning
What It Is To Burn Lyrics
She burns
Today's on fire
The sky is bleeding above me, and I am blistered
I walk these lines of blasphemy, every day
And still:
Like a bad star, I'm falling faster down to her
She's the only one who knows, what it is to burn
I...

#1 top rated interpretation:It's about a guy who is having a difficult time through life.. But he meets this girl who understands everything he's going through and knows what he's feeling (what it is to burn) and he would do anything for her
-
It's about a girl that dies and comes back to life
-
This song is about a girl killing herself and the wake of hurt and despair left behind. Thats why she knows what it is to burn and pays the price for glory. I know this story all too well...song never made sense till then.

To me this song is more like. To my interpretation the fall of an angel (say Lucifer) " Like bad star I'm falling faster down to her (maybe is referring to earth, or hell) <-- " she is only one who knows what it is to burn ". " I feel diseased (damnation), is there no sympathy from the sun (exclusion or absence of God's love) " The sky still fire " (referring to the first war after the war) " But I'm safe in here from the world outside " (meaning: better to reign in hell than to serve in heaven).

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

The song is about the goddess of fire. The lead singer, Nate, wrote it because she is also a symbol of 'love through pain.' This shows his feelings towards relationship.

The real meaning of this song is really easy to figure out!....Its about this guy that dies and goes to hell and how he looks up at life and sees what he misses most and never really cared about till he died and that was he girl friend and he writes her a note telling her how he cares and he wishes he was still with her and that hell is the worst place to be in....Hint "shes the only one that knows what it is to burn" because he told her about hell

I'm not sure about this song, but here is my simple interpretation:
This song is about feeling vulnerable in the world but knowing that you have someone going through it with you who understands.
The line "Like a bad star, I'm falling faster down to her" shows some confusion and guilt. Maybe he feel like she isn't really the right girl, but he keeps gravitating towards her because she understands his pain. I'm straying a bit from the lyircs here, but I think maybe he's been through something (like addiction or something like that) and really he know he should distance himself from it and move on, but he finds himself falling for a girl who has been through the same thing.
