   I would the poetry side as staded by another person. I think the lyrics would give you a different meaning deoending on how you feel. I've been listening to this since its release and like you I had the same question in mind. But recently I fell in love (cheesy I know. haha) and the moment I heard this song again I felt like I understood it for the first time. I've met a man who's already with someone else. But during the short time we've spent together I fell in love and know deep inside we had something very special but I couldn't do anything about it. I can only wish and dream we could be together.

   ----> I made a move and entered his life without the intention to pull him away from his peaceful family life
   
   "You made your mind up before you knew me
   If you don’t get it, then you don’t get it
   
   ----> I've met him now that he's already married. Certainly made his mind up long before he knew me.

   We’re in it, imagine all the
   Pain that might be forgiven."
   
   ---> Asking him to share a moment with me imagining how there could have been no pain (hurting his wife and family) if it had been us all along.

   All I could do is just dream about a different future. With us together.

   ---> Asking him to take a chance with me even for a short while. Basically asking what if I were in his position and he was in mine. How would we decide.

   Together was to rise up"
   
   ---> The only thing that could probably give us the new tomorrow with us in it together is by just meeting again in the after life. Maybe not in this lifetime but in another.
   
   This is how it meant for me know. and it's painful whenever I hear this song. Basically all the questions in the song is about imagining you are in the position of the other and he's in yours. How would you decide in that case.

   Just more, try to put yourself in somebody elses shoes.. Try to understand and give empathy.. But if you did and you don't get it, then you just don't get it..
