    Creativity is ambiguous in meanings. I believe that it is almost clairvoyant in a sense. There’s good & bad in all of us & the bad.. I feel puts it’s mystic thoughts in all of us when we’re fantasizing or “in another state of mind” ...
    A lot of artist are very intuitive and/or par take in mind altering activities...
    ....which is probably where a lot of things were wrote, painted, sang, acted etc ....
    ...or they were created when the person was venting, coping, experiencing anger, fear, despair or euphoria which all are also, mind/soul altering chemical inducing tools.
    The world is not just what we see & touch... art puts some of the invisible out to see but we usually ignore or miss the theme

    This futuristic song is about him getting older and walking along the avenue and deciding to run for president of the united states! All the shit he faces thru the campaign he felt he couldnt get away from, polls controlled media hollywood cnn death threats false accusations abandonment betrayal etc but despite the uphill battle wins and finds glorious golden victory on election day! by a landslide

    Above, got it with Iran, but it goes deeper almost prophetic to current nuclear stockpiling. The song I think is looking at the effects of nuclear war/explosion/fallout.I ran, country and also he can't escape from effects of nuke. Beam of light is intense flash of nuclear explosion, cloud is the mushroom cloud. He reaches out to girl but she's dying from radioactivity/cancer. Floating in the beam of light recalls Initial explosion, or another one is unleashed. Aurora borealis, is dawn of nuclear age, and the remaining nations of the Roman Empire incl. U.S. And England. The eagles wings plucked from the lion, note: Babylon had winged lions on architecture, is head of gold in Nebuchadnezzar's dream of statue of kingdoms, Medeo-Persia is second(silver shoulders and chest)changed name in 1935 to Iran. Currently U.S. Is allocating 500 billion to Iran, as Obama the forerunner to the antichrist, setting scene to try "blow Israel off the map. Greece? Is next kingdom of bronze on statue, and is being "floated" as one of 10 horns or kingdoms in EU, WEA western European alliance.But The Kingdom without end prevails.see Daniel2:41-45 Captainmidnite.

    Oh God! Its so hard to believe this song just played in Pandora while Im writing a long text to the guy I love in response to his text where he said: "I find sometimes in my life I walk away from the ones I love the most in the end they're the ones that get hurt the most". English is not my first language but something in my subconscious told me that song have to do with my current situation. Had to look for the meaning online and found this site!!
    I believe this song is about a guy that unexpectedly meets his real love and have a hard time accepting it. He run away but at the same time he "couldn't get away". When he get close to her he feels like "floating in a beam of light with" her. Just like what I feel when im close to him, floating. Only pure love does it. QUE VIVA EL AMOR!!!!!

    The song's secret meaning is about the Iran Hostage crisis in the late 1970's. They are really singing "Iran, Iran's so far away... couldn't get away".

    There were 52 hostages that were held by Islamic militants for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981.

    The song was released by the Flock of Seagulls in 1982.

    In the first verse, the brown hair and "tawny eyes" are describing their Iranian captors. In the second verse the "beam of light" is the hope of release that kept fading as months went by. The third verse is about the fear of forgetting what your loved ones look like as time goes by in captivity.

    This song did not do well in the UK because it slipped out that this song was really about the hostages.

    It is a very sad song indeed.

    The girl is an angel... with auburn hair and tawny (golden brown) eyes... the type of eyes that hypnotize him through... A cloud appears above her head, a beam of light comes shining down on her... he reaches out to touch her face, shes slowly disappearing from his view... he reaches out to try again... hes floating in a beam of light with her... he runs... he runs so far away, he just runs... he runs all night and day... he couldn't get away...

    Hes dead... something happened to him in the first verse while he was walking down the avenue... that killed him... From this point he is a spirit... The girl is there to take him away... when he puts the pieces together, he starts to run... he couldn't get away... you cant run from death.

    This song is about a guy who starts to fall in love, and realizes that he is going to be hurt by that love, so he tries to run away from it before it is too late and he gets hurt/dumped/rejected again. He is scared of falling in love again. He thinks the girl is different than all the others when he says "I never thought I met a girl like you", but he realizes that all loves are the same. And it is doomed, so he runs in emotional fear.

    I think the songs expresses pretty well what a teenager feels when he/she falls in love.
    On the one hand you're mesmerized and can't let go, on the other hand it's complicated to approach an attractive person because you're worried about rejection.

    Taking all the above in mind, the natural feeling is to want to run away. To not be there in that stressful situation.

    I think it's a pretty cool love song and I like listening to it as well as playing it.
    Songs are meant to describe emotions and this one's pretty successful, so no wonder it became a worldwide success.

    your an idiot. This song is about Vontun Naderhoffen, the 1936 Olympic Silver medalist from Germany. After competing in small track meets around the European circuit, Vontun found that if he killed someone before a meet, it made him run faster. Something about turkey sandwhiches. goose bumps books and fish and chips. do you understand the consequences of the way you inerpret these songs!!!!!
