Chariot Lyrics

Staring at a maple leaf
Leaning on the mother tree
I said to myself we all lost touch
Your favorite fruit is chocolate covered cherries
And seedless watermelon ohhhh
Nothing from the ground is good enough
Body rised
It puts over...

I think he's in today's world it's so easy to get caught up in the newest price of technology and fast paced society. Even something like rain seems to get in the way. I think what the song is trying to say is that there's a beauty to the simplicity of nature and this world that people have forgotten. Everything he describes in the song compliments it's beauty. Being able to recognize this beauty and welcoming it into your heart makes you stronger and can help guide you. At least that's what I get from it :)

Meditating just now, the lyrics just rolled through my mind of "the sun was just yellow energy" and I came upon this site post-mindfulness. Very beautiful interpretations. (: my meditation directed me to smile whilst focusing on just being and how smling not only relaxes the face muscles but raises energetic positivity. We all have this positive calm beauty inside of us, and I believe this song is just another wonderful expression to remind us of that, much like the meditation. Keep up the great work and positivity people. With our thoughts we shape our world! Let's keep them simple and of kindness and of love. - js

My interpretation of this song stanza by stanza is this:
    1)
    Staring at a maple leaf
    Leanin' on the mother tree
I said to myself we all lost touch
    Your favorite fruit is
    Chocolate-covered cherry
    Seedless watermelon, oh
Nothing from the ground is good enough
Body rise, look what's over me

Nothing from nature is good enough as it would seem in comparison to technology and money. However, look what's "over me" ie: the sun and celestial chariot.

    Refrain:
    Oh chariot, your golden waves
Are walking down upon this face
Oh chariot, I'm singing out loud
To guide me, give me your... strength

This is a call to the sun ie: chariot with it's "golden waves" of sunlight to guide and help keep intouch with the basics of life

    2)
    Remember seeing moon's rebirth?
Rains made mirrors of the earth
The sun was just yellow energy
There is a living promise land
    Even over fields of sand
Since it's filled my body, covered me
Bring it back, more than a memory

Remember the moon phases, rains and how it impressed us as young folks?
"There is a living promised land". That land is present now away from greed, technolgy and corruption and the call is to "bring it back" ie: the days of peaceful simplicity.

My interpretation of this song is that Gavin is saying that people are craving or demanding fake things and have lost touch with what is real. Chariot is a symbol of the spirit of life, love and strength to tap into what is real. Perhaps from a feminine perspective. He is tapping into this golden spirit and it is healing him and guiding him. He is overwhelmed with this love.

    Gavin DeGraw on "Chariot":

Chariot" is a metaphorical vehicle for getting to a place in your mind that is a more broken down and laid back. It's somewhere to be just for a moment--instead of being wrapped up and living wherever you're living and consumed with what you're doing. It's a place to release and chill out.

I think he just bought a new chariot with golden waves painted on the side and he is going to ride it to the moon.

The chariot is a vehicle to success, and how he is no gonna let the fame change him.

The first interpretation's got it ;]
I love the whole "your favorite fruit is chocolate covered cherries, nothing from the ground is good enough"

Sadly, so many people in today's society lost desire for all that is natural, and beautiful. Too many people have the wrong perspective of what beauty is. They're superficial and need to turn away from depending on materialistic things to show them beauty.

I think he's trying to say that he wants to be saved from this land of misery.

I think he's singing about how we aren't happy with what is natural and what we already have, we always have to change it in some way.
"Your favorite fruit is chocolate covered cherries
    And seedless watermelon
Nothing from the ground is good enough"
