Green Day: Before the Lobotomy Meaning
Before the Lobotomy Lyrics
Of another place and time
Where my family's from
Singing, I can hear them singing
When the rain had washed away
All these scattered dreams
Dying, everyone's reminded
Hearts are washed in misery
Drenched...
-
lol wat how is the song talking about drugs and alcohol idiot
-
This song is a part in the rock opera where the female main character, Gloria who was a resistance leader, basically gives herself up to a group of people who preform a lobotomy, essentially killing her. The beginning is her softly remembering her past and what's wrong. The middle is her angry thoughts about society. The end repeats the beginning, only louder and harder, to show Gloria's last stand before her lobotomy

Just a mental note: i love this song!!
"Dreaming, I was only dreaming
Of another place and time
Where my family's from"
A time in his life when things may have been less hectic other than today with all this new technology perhaps
"Singing, I can hear them singing
When the rain had washed away
All these scattered dreams"
Look at "Singing" and perhaps "scattered" Thanks to this thing called autotune, music requires no talent while the machine has the talent for them. See how lots of so-called singers like T-Pain use autotune? Thats a MACHINE doing the work for them. Therefore, these "artists" have no reason to be famous and are falsely displayed as being called "'inspiring" when they are nothing more than dishonored attention-seekers.
"Dying, everyone's reminded
Hearts are washed in misery
Drenched in gasoline"
Sort of the same as the above passage, but more so having to do with the appearance. Seriously, who wants to see a man wearing tight jeans which are intentionally girls pants? The Point: the way these people are being looked at is negative, and must think more thoroughly about what they are letting others see. The Music Industry is "dying".
"Laughter, there's no more laughter
Songs of yesterday now live in the underground"
Its pretty easy to predict what this is about. Alot of today's humor isnt as appealing nor is it funny towards Everyone. And the line "songs of yesterday now live in the underground"
People these days don't seem to know what "good music" even is. I cant help but think the same! The point is there are so many good songs out there that nobody seems to notice or even care.
As for the rest of the song, its basically something about this person named "Christian" which i know nothing about, but about the eulogy part. He could be talking about what was happening "Before" the lobotomy (including the intro). It could have been an event about this guy named "Christian's eulogy" and how he was: "Not Stoned; I'm just fucked up
I got so high, I can't stand up
I'm not cursed cause I've been blessed
I'm not in love cause I'm a mess"
For the refugees part, he talks about how kids may be prone to doing the same and are looked upon for doing such things like "just getting fucked up" or acting like their the best (and this goes out to adults who are doing the same).
"The brutality of reality
Is the freedom that keeps me from"
Reality is pretty harsh the way some people tend to see it. Reality is "Brutal" and the lack of "Freedom" which keeps him from
"Dreaming, I was only dreaming
Of another place and time
Where my family's from
Singing, I can hear them singing
When the rain had washed away all these scattered dreams
Dying, everyone's reminded
Hearts are washed in misery
Drenched in gasoline
Laughter, there's no more laughter
Songs of yesterday
Now live in the underground" -
i think the song is talking about his past memories and how it came back to haunt him and it made him insane so he wants to escape it by drinking and smoking but it still doesn't help no matter how hard he tries to consume.
