Imagine Dragons: It's Time Meaning
Song Released: 2012
It's Time Lyrics
When you said that you were spent
And now it's time to build from the bottom of the pit, right to the top
Don't hold back
Packing my bags and giving the academy a rain check
I don't ever wanna let you down
I don't...

To me this song seems like a guy who is basically done. He saying I won't change and
you can't make me. I've messed up butt he's trying again. he's fighting for who he is. He's try to not dissapoint. butt he is who he is. Like we all are.
DON'T CHANGE -
( I'll admit, I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
That I'm never changing who I am?) it's like a brokenhearted person trying to stand what he is, and moving on. Leaving all the mistakes and start over again for being good.
(I don't ever want to let you down
I don't ever want to leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night... )
every time his/her sad. he/she will fight for life! -
it makes a lot of sense as if he were working through depression or addiction. an inner monologue at the start,
"so this is what you meant? when you said that you were spent?" as if he is talking to himself. whatever he was doing is no longer working and he's left at the bottom.
the chorus really reminds me of coming out a depressed fog. the fact that it's still a question, "It's time to begin, isn't it?" the uncertainty is really easy to relate to, because when you're at that rock bottom point nothing seems certain, and you know you have to go somewhere, but you have no clue where. But it probably is whatever wild dreams your 12 year old self wanted to go, which finishes the chorus. -

For me the song is about a person who is doesn't want to let someone who they care for down and prays for his or her growth but also has been through so much in life and returning to his or her base (their anchor and support of their friends, family, town) and the other person is not going to be a part of it. She, (or he) is saying their spent with the other person already grounded and wants them to participate in their journey-hell, drama, whatever that might be. It's hard for both people but he sounds healthy in his expression to her and she doesn't sound at all healthy. I think it's also very spiritual. (As in, she will figure it out later whether he's a part of it or not and he still prays for her best)

I feel this song is about always staying to who you are. And saying that you can do what ever you want and you will receive help. This song is also in The Perks Of Being A Wallflower . That is where I got my conclusion .

This comes straight from Dan Reynolds an interview conducted by Jon Chattman. Read the rest here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jon-chattman/imagine-dragons_b_1468394.html
"I wrote it during a very hard time in my life. I had dropped out of college, and I was just sitting down at my computer, and I came up with this rhythm. And the words just wrote themselves. I knew I had something special coming."
Later, Dan says this: "It's a song that people can interpret in so many ways. I hate it when artists say what it exactly means. It really compartmentalizes it. I always like to leave art and music open to interpretation." -
You're Both Right.. according to an interview with Dan he stated he was going through a bad time and was in college. However he did point out he wants the song to be interpreted by the listener not by his reasons for writing it.
None the less its an inspirational song.
It has a spiritual ora for me... -
I feel the song is about wanting to hold onto your old life. However, you know it's time to start a new adventure or chapter in your life, i.e. college or moving out on your own.
-
Its about the singer supporting someone who is going through a tough time and feels like giving up. "build from the bottom of the pit right to the top" (start over). dont hold back (pursue go for it). "i dont want to let you down (i will support you). Just my opinion, but i could be wrong.
