Second Chances Lyrics

Older than water, stubborn as stone
There'll be no forgiveness for all that you've known
Oh, these days, oh these days get
Heavy
Harder than friction, stubborn as sound
There'll be no forgiveness till you come around
Oh, these days, oh...

Three of the four band members have roots in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I think this song is kind of about Christ, like a dialogue with Him. The beginning is the hopelessness that life would hold without a Savior, never being able to have forgiveness and peace. But the chorus almost feels like Christ is speaking - "Please let me in, I believe in second chances. I won't break you, I will not let you down." The second verse: the moment we turn to Christ, His Atonement is there for us to make us whole again, He can erase it and we can be reconciled to God. Because life is heavy and hard and can be so dark but no matter what happens, no matter where we go or what we do or how far gone we think we are, He remains. It's never too late, because Christ gave everything to give us second chances and third chances and thousandth chances. He asks us to "open up again," because He wants us to come back to Him.

Well quite obviously, this song is about wanting forgiveness and second chances.
