INXS: Afterglow Meaning
Song Released: 2006
Afterglow Lyrics
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this...

He is reflecting on a time/person/occasion/moment - it sustains itself, he envisions it repeatedly. Wishing and hoping that it returns.

"Afterglow" is sung by INXS's new vocalist and winner of Rock Star:INXS, J.D. Fortune, after the former one, Michael Hutchence, committed suicide in 97.
"Touch me and I will follow
In your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go
I will find my way
I will sacrifice
'Till the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow..."
The title of the song refers to the color of the sky after the sun sets, when it's still rosy or orange.
It's about how the new vocalist is picking up from where the old one left, and is honored to do so. The sun has faded from the sky, leaving only an afterglow: Michael's legacy, his great reputation and the friendship and love people had for him, and the new guy will live humbly in that place in INXS, while the rest of the band will have their memories and the empty space left by the absence of the sun for the rest of their lives.
The song was written as a tribute to Michael, speaking about how they are sad to have to let him go and how they will find their way until the day they meet again, never forgetting their friend as they live in his afterglow.
