Jennifer Lopez: Love Don't Cost a Thing Meaning

Album cover for Love Don't Cost a Thing album cover

Song Released: 2000

Love Don't Cost a Thing Lyrics

You think you gotta keep me iced
You don't
You think I'm gonna spend your cash
I won't
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz
I don't
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke...

First world ladies were far more ahead even 22 years back.
But Lopez was more like backdated in terms of love.
Because love is an ancient concept which is invariable by the matter of time, space or fact.
Somebody who is most advanced is definitely most intelligent and supposed to be most aware of the basic fundamentals. But people are strange.
    ===============================================
""It has been reported by multiple sources that the lyrical message of "Love Don't Cost a Thing" was based around her two-year relationship with rapper Sean Combs, who allegedly "showered" her with expensive jewelry. Shortly after the month's release, they broke up.""

This song is saying "money and materialistics doesn't matter in love if loyalty and caring is absent".

Love Don't Cost a Thing, she is not materialistic.
Even if he were broke, her love don't cost a thing.

The three previous interpretations and the recent interpretation, analyzed well the meaning of this song.

I feel the message about the song is an understanding that materialistic isnt the answer to buying love. Because money definitely can’t buy you love. What the point of showering somebody with gifts if you can’t spend time your loyalty and time along with them

That she wants his time ,honesty, caring ,respect, loyalty and love more than his money.
His true real love worth more then any material things .

The song is saying I understand you have alot money..there nöthing wrong with that...

Nöthing wrong with gift..does not take the place of being committed in the relationship

    need
    to be treated right!

    respect

    lolalty honesty time trust togethetness...

Love by being there listening in you caring in you understanding of what effects her emotionally she wants to know you love her for who she is

you make it known to her she is your best friend your relationship is priority and she is show her how special she is in word in action your grateful!
in return the love you share is priceless!

I honestly believe this song means that what's the point of all the materialistic things he's giving/offering to her when he's not giving her what money can't buy. Such as time, loyalty, etc. On the other hand he thinks that if he gives her money or his car, in replace of his absence (refer to "think I wanna drive your benz I don't or "think I wanna spend your cash I don't") that she will be content & happy. Which is totally opposite.
