Songs about Materialism
We all look down out noses at materialism, but really, who is anybody to talk? We live in a capitalist, consumerist culture; if you aren't living in the woods sewing your own clothes and trapping squirrels for dinner, you have no right to complain about materialism. But we like to anyway, so these are songs bemoaning the shallow, commercialized world of the free market.
From material girls to money, money, money, it's all here. It's ironic that we have so many songs about greed and material wealth, when the artists who wrote these songs live in a world of mansions and yachts. And, as unavoidable as some aspects of materialism might be, perhaps it's best to have the odd reminder not to live for money. Now that the speech is over with, let's go shopping!
