Kaiser Chiefs: From the Neck Down Meaning
From the Neck Down Lyrics
-
It is about a girlfriend who is "beautiful" but has an ugly face, hence "from the neck down". It says that her face "could sink ships/Not in a good way/But in a bad way" this shows that sinking ships could be something to be proud of but in this case it is a negative reason. The final verse states that "I've got a fast car/A convertible" showing that he has something to be proud of. However, the next two lines "We keep the top up/Let's keep the top up" shows that he doesn't want other people to see her face so he keeps the roof up. The chorus says "You love her but you don't wanna show her to your friends" showing that he does love his girlfriend but does not want to "show her to [his] friends" because it would be embarrassing.
In conclusion, it is about a girlfriend that he loves very much and who is very beautiful, but has a face that he would be embarrassed to be seen with.
