California Waiting Lyrics

Little Mona Lisa laying by my side

"Crimson and Clover" pullin' overtime

I feel too close to be losin' touch

By givin' in, what am I givin' up

Am I losin' way too much

Hey

California waiting

Every little thing's gotta be...

Think it’s about a narc. There having plenty of sex, crimson n clover

But she think his life’s better with her. He now knows otherwise. I don’t need saving and my life was good before. Hence him saying ironically that he’s happy to get back to his lonely life without her. And happy times are ahead in that California is waiting.

To me it seems that the song is about a relationship in which the woman is high maintenance and “every little things gotta be just right” in order for things to be okay with her. The lyric “say, while you’re trying to save me, can I get back my lonely life?” seems to reference the fact that Caleb is going through some shit, depression perhaps, and the girl is trying to save him from it but he’s just wishing to get out of the relationship, as maybe the relationship is the cause for his struggles. It’s like anything and everything sets this woman off and Caleb has no idea how to handle her or how to fix things that he didn’t even break.
