Kygo: It Ain't Me Meaning
Song Released: 2017
It Ain't Me Lyrics
We were sipping whiskey neat
Highest floor, The Bowery
Nowhere's high enough
Somewhere along the lines
We stopped seeing eye to eye
You were staying out all night
And I had enough
No, I don't wanna know
Where you been or...

#1 top rated interpretation:The song is about a sad ending for a happy couple.it starts with them having an accident on the road. throughout the video the guy is lying in bed and people are misleaded to believe that he dies. But ironically he lives and his girlfriend dies. And what we see in the video is the version of what the guy thinks would be happening had his girlfriend been alive, which he thinks she is until he wakes up.Also in between we see the girl spitting out butterflies.in an old custom it is believed that dead people have butterflies in their mouth. In a way, the passive dark blue theme of the song signifies how much the guy loves his girlfriend even when he is unconscious. so technically, when he wakes up ,he realises that all that he saw was a dream....hence the name It aint me(in the dream). NOTE:when he wakes up the girl cannot be seen anywhere thus proving that she died in the crash...

#2 top rated interpretation:Their relationship felt like it was on its highest level, they were destined to be the greatest couple ever was the way she felt at first. But no matter how good it felt it was never enough for him. She reminisced on the memories about drinking whiskey simultaneously and just enjoying their vibes together it felt like ecstasy like a high. Somewhere it faded when he kept partying and not putting her first not realizing what he had. She was dedicated and he wasn't. She was walking him through his dark days as his light but since he was so distracted by other things and not treating her right she left she had enough. She won't be home meaning he can't come back to her she's through for good. He won't have someone to be his light take care of him and just plain care he will be on his own when he finally realizes he's wrong. When the good times fade away after his day of going out and partying she won't be waiting.

The top-ranked interpretations are nonsense - the writers are confusing the video with the lyrics of the song. The lyrics are quite straight-forwardedly the musings of a young person (woman?) who has stepped away from a relationship, with feelings of deep regret, because her paramour/lover is falling into an alcohol-soaked, late-nights, and emotionally void, existence. The protagonist proclaims "It ain't me" who is going to help the boyfriend out the next time he is hung over and feeling wretched.
That's it.

It's about a person who had expectations of this relationship that seemed perfect at the time but despite them being there for the other person they didn't appreciate it and now the singer is grateful it is over she does not have to be there to put up with his shit. She does reminisce but quickly remembers what it was really like and realizes she's happy it's over.
