Led Zeppelin: Stairway To Heaven Meaning
Stairway To Heaven Lyrics
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh and she's buying a stairway to...

The song, labeled as the best 'FM' rock staple of all time (something which kids these days wouldn't be able to relate what's that about) is a groundbreaking phenomena since Don McLean's 'American Pie' judging by its length and topical content- which are quite unusual for that matter to have airplay.
Allegedly written through the phenomenon cited as automatic writing - its controversy lies not only with its out-of-the-ordinary lyrics, but also that its line "Yes. there are two paths you can go by but in the long run, and there still time to change..." contain the line "Here's to my sweet satan, no other made a path that would make me sad who's power is satan" when played backward.
Peculiarly, to memorize the said line heard backwards and record your own voice reciting the backward line would emit the forward segment of that particular portion when one listens to his own voice recording played in reverse. Most songs by Zep are dabbled with typical americana schtick when it comes to their lyrics, which are typical for the songs of this perenial/legendary british band... however, many of their songs also hint to touch a certain stem with J. R.R. Tolkein's LOTR books, being that some of the guys in the band are fans of - and this particular tune also seem to hint on it. Robert PLant the one who penned the lyrics himself for 'Stairway' stated that there are no specific 'real' meanings to the song -- thus in a peculiar play for words of sorts there's the line in the song which says certain words could have two meanings. So much for all of these what's really striking is that the song signifies to touch on the level of deeply theological thoughts= the lady being (the Ring from Tolkein's fictio accd to others) represents the 'mother whore of babylon' written about in the Bible's book Of Revelation - which represents a worldly core religion that would emit various sects and religious groups out of its own, in which each would claim to be the True Religion from each other, and yet all try to vie their own salvation by trying to buy their 'stairway' to heaven - that depicts what these religions are trying to do: create their own ways and standards of getting to heaven. Furthermore on the song, it speaks of a clear sentiment that comes from Lucifer which drove him to his banishment and condemnation from God by thinking that he would ascend to the throne of the Creator thinking that he have the better idea (take note of the Piper in the song- which some claim to be Gandalf from Tolkein's LOTR series). Furthermoe the term Gold in the song indicates to symbolize 'Eternal Life', something that would never fade away, that QUEEN's contribution of songs to the movie HIGHLANDER have amplified along with the said movie's storyline in a reversed kind of way. -
