what is it about afternoons? the promise of the morning is so far away as to be non existent by this time of day and more than non existent but even false and 4 o'clock is reality. and with no holds barred he dissects the life he see's and exposes the bleakness of his charmed life. But nice, and fortunate too, that it was 4 o'clock and not earlier. Late afternoon must turn toward early evening...when it arrives he knows the night will save him, again. There is a slight change in tone, a sound of some relief and acknowledgement that he's been here before and will probably return to...but despair has departed, for now.
