    This song is about her split with Damien Rice. I think the lyrics are fairly obvious in that regard and the meaning is pretty clear.

    I really like how she points out the fact that since they parted ways he's as "lonely as a church" without her, while she, on the other hand, is "empty as a promise, no more" because that's actually a nice burn!! Think about it - what she's REALLY saying there is that now he's all alone without her and feeling lonely while she is relishing getting out from under him (pun intended) and to pursue her own career and having the opportunity to prove herself as a successful solo artist talented in her own right. It turns out she gets a lot more out of life and is better off without him than she was as an empty promise (wasted potential) when she was with him. Now I love me some Damien but I have to give Lisa props for that SWEEEEEET Burn! I know that felt good to sing didn't it sista??!? Right on Lisa! :)
