Machine Gun Kelly: Banyan Tree (Interlude) Meaning
Song Released: 2020
Banyan Tree (Interlude) Lyrics
-
the song starts off with Megan Fox, MGK's girlfriend, saying "oh my god... did you drink a lot of tequila? is that what is was?" pretty much just implying that he drank too much and was either hungover or drunk. The next line Megan says is "do you wanna listen to interlude while we sit here?" to which Colson's voice replies back simply, "yeah". Next Megan just says "put it on" which is pretty self explanatory. The beginning music of the song starts playing and Megan says "do you like, remember the stuff you do to me?". Colson replies in a tone implying 'why would you even ask that' by saying "yes". Megan then replies "ok.. i dont know 'cause you're so high or like, you get really drunk so i dont know if you remember it" which implies Colson drinks/smokes a lot to the point where he is almost always intoxicated that she questions if he remembers any of the things they do together. Colson next replies with "of course i do. i cherish you." which puts Megan at ease. as the intro to the song gets a little louder, MGK says "i burn other memories just to make room for those ones" which is a reference to another one of his songs, "Burning Memories" simply meaning that he does/is willing to forget other important memories to remember all the time spent with Megan. The next line we hear Megan say "that was four months ago that we were right here and i met you... that's not possible". By this she is just saying basically they fell so in love in such a short time and being back at the place they first met four months later is almost impossible to believe. The final line before the beginning of the actual song is Megan saying "you just got my initials tattooed on you; i got your nickname tattooed on me" which means just that... they both just permanently altered their bodies in honer of the other. This line can also be a possible reference to another song called "forget me too" in which the line "permanent calligraphy, i just tattooed your name on me forever" is said.
The actual song begins now with the lines "she loves a boy so much, she wants him to steal her breath" which is saying "she", who he is referring to Megan but in the short movie he made, "Downfalls High", Fenix (Played by Chase Hudson) is singing about Scarlet (played by Sydney Sweeney), is so much in love with this boy that she would be willing to give him her life. This line repeats again before more spoken word is said.
The next part of the song is Colson saying "because if also, the world was coming to an end, i dont wanna close my eyes... without feeling like i lived" this simply means if the world ended right now, he wouldn't want to regret anything, he wouldn't want to feel like he missed out on things and like he didn't get to live and enjoy his life. In the final seconds of the song, we hear Megan's voice simply reply "same" to which the song closes.
