Song Released: 2002
Concrete Angel Lyrics
Nobody knows what she's holding back;
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday.
She hides the bruises with the linen and lace,oh
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask,
It's hard to see the...

Concrete angle by martina mcbride is about her neice anglea that was abused by her mom and when she couldnt take it anymore is died. her mother and father split up. Then her mom started to abuse her.
You could also look at the lyrics the chorus through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone in a world she cant rise above can relate to the concrete part and the angle part. but her dreams give her wings and flies to place where shes loved concrete angle shows that she dreamed of leaving but she couldnt and on day she died and she to a better place where she was loved and never abused again (heaven). god told her to follow him to a place that was so much better than the place she lived in so she did and he brought her to heaven. all the kids out there being abused or if u know someone being abuse tell some to get help over 1000 people a year r abused but only about 10% are reported and only about 1 case out of that 10% is actully proved and helped the other case that are not proved or not reported the kid dies or if the mother or father is being abused they die to:( -
I think that her mother hated her and that she ddnt care about her because angela had to make her own lunch and wear the same dress as the day before. She wore short sleeves in school which proves she actually wants help! She stood through it all until one day when she was talking to a little boy (who was also an angel) her mum came in and started hurting her. Why would someone want to kill their own child?! Every time I listen to this song i feel heartbroken. It makes me so angry that anyone would actually want to hurt a little 7 year old girl! The song is truely amazing, It has lots of thoughtful meanings. In the end she did actually go up to a place where people loved her and where she belonged.

this song is about child abuse. it is so meaningful and it says a lot for many children in this world. i think that Martina did an amazing job with this song i must say. the little girl (Martina's niece_ must have had a terrible life ... r.i.p Angela, let the angels take care of you. Martina puts so much detailed emotions and actions into this song. i really hope that Angela's mother got what she deserved, and i hope she feels terrible for what she done. hopefully no-body feels any mercy for her cruel and evil moves which she could have stopped by not becoming a drunk just because she got divorced. she couldn't have cared enough for her daughter as much as she did when she was married as she did not hit her when she was married. Angela would be so proud of her aunty and i bet she is looking down on her family. i really wish someone had phoned the police sooner and then maybe Angela could still be with us, she would have been beautiful. did anyone notice she had the word angel in her name also?. she was an absolute angel from the day she was born and no matter what she will be loved and missed and in the song it says "the world forgot", for those people i sure hope they haven't still forgotten what happened to the beautiful Angela Carter in 2005 ... rest in peace the 'concrete angel'

This is so sad who would do that just to get the pain out of them!!!!

This song is about child abuse. The mother physically abuses the child (bruises) as well as not providing everything the child needs (wearing the same dress she wore yesterday). The teacher had guessed what was happening but did not tell anyone, and her neighbors saw the little girl being beaten, but they did not tell anyone. The mother had beaten her little girl to death.

i was not abused but i was abused a different way this song makes me cry every time i here it i want to fined stuff on this young girl who died i think alot of people can relate to this song not in the sense of being killed but in the sense of being hurt by others.

This song relates to me in so many ways! I was and still am a victim of child abuse. Im 16 now, and still don't have to confidence to speek out. My mum hits me, ( and has put me in hospital before ) and yet know one askes. Its as though im by myself.
Sometimes i wish i was like the little girl this is about, because at least she is in heven now with the angels, which is the best place for her. -
This song is about a little girl who is forced to care for her self after all the abuse and beating from her mother. At school her teacher notices and wonders about her bruises and scars but never does anything about it. The little girl has a imaginary friend to help her through the beating. The neighbours are always hearing crying and screaming at night but turn out the light because they do not want to become part of her problems. One night the little girl is talking to her friend through the window and her mother comes in and beats her to death. At the end of the concrete angel film clip the little boy (her imaginary friend) is at her funeral. He disappears before reappearing with the girl and running off to other children who were also victims of child abuse. PLEASE IF YOU WITNESS CHILD ABUSE REPORT IT DO NOT LET LIVES GO TO WASTE! THANK YOU.

'Concrete Angel' is a very emotional song, it is about a young girl suffering from child abuse and neglect. the song reflects on her emotions, the fear she hides deep within herself, the hope that someone will come and save her... she knows her life isn't normal. she smiles, and acts normal but in her eyes there is pain, living through the darkness she sees no light.
i think the title, symbolises her headstone at her grave where she rests.
this song touches my heart and soul, and i love it because it has a deep meaning. -
This is so sad I cry every time i see this video. It makes me so angry to see this innocent 7 year old little girl Angela Carter
(who is for a fact Martina McBride's Niece)get beaten to death by her ungrateful, idiotic, A-HOLE of a f***** Mother who kills her b/c her husband divorces her b/c she is a mental freak who deserves nothing but to be in the electric chair & take a trip to hell. WHAT KIND OF MOTHER BEATS THEIR CHILD TO DEATH? I would personally like to know.
yours truly

BEAUTIFUL song.... I cry EVERY TIME I hear it! I, myself,am a survivor of child abuse and am now a child abuse advocate. This song was released a year after I reported the abuse and entered foster care, I was 13. I pray for ALL child abuse victims and will continue to fight to eradicate foster youth!
Thank you, Martina, for such a wonderful song and having the courage to give a voice to SO many who are left unheard!!
Much Love,
Lacey -
The video is about a girl who is abused by her mother. The girl then meets a friend who helps her get through the days. She dies and it is revealed her friend was an angel sent from heaven to help her through the pain.

It seems pretty obvious the song is more about abuse and neglect than rape AEB bruises and wearing the same clothes. There seem to be many rumors on the internet that it's about Martina's niece who did die but I've never found that in an interview. Though haven't searched extensively. I'm curious if anyone can quote a source where Martina said it herself and, if it's true, wonder what happened to Martina's sister, if she ever served time in prison.
