   I believe it's true and a reflection on his past and upbringing,he has sadness in his past, happy memories, tragedy, and all seem fresh in his mind and it is a heart felt song one of my best from meatloaf.

The bottom line of the song tells is that while these events may have happened long ago chronologically and far away geographically, they are still fresh in memory and close by heart.    I believe that this song is deadicated to long lost friend who passed away in an horrific accident I also believe that he uses strong interepations of love for his first love and also pain hate and anger from his terrible past that occured with his abusive drunken father.
