Lounge Act Lyrics

Truth - covered in security
I can't let you smother me
I'd Like to, but it couldn't work
Trading off, taking turns
Don't regret a thing
And I've got this friend, you see
Who makes me feel and I
Wanted more than I could steal
I'll...

This song is about Tobi Veil; a woman Kurt dated while writing some of "never mind".
She was dating a friend of Kurt, while having an affair on that man with Kurt. But Kurt is well-aware that she is cheating on his friend.
"I'd like to but it couldn't work" means he would LIKE to be in a relationship with her, but it wouldn't work out given the situation.
"Trading off, taking turns" means he is sharing time with her between her boyfriend. They see each other every other night or something like that.
"Dont regret a thing" means he doesn't regret being with her even though it's "wrong"
"I've got this friend you see, who makes me feel." They call each other friends, but he grows feelings for her.
"I wanted more than I could steel" shows he wanted MORE than an affair, he wanted to be with her all the time, but he couldn't b/c she needed to be with her boyfriend.

I honestly thought this song was about Kurt being in a gay open relationship and he’s jealous that his gay lover is constantly seeing a girl. Lol but now Ik it’s about a girl named tobi or whatever.

I like the meaning of this being about a girl however I really enjoy Nirvana's music.

This song is about being an being in a relationship with an addiction and making a deal with with the devil.

This song was written about Bikini Kill co-founder, Tobi Vail “Kurt’s Ex“. It's actually the only song Cobain admitted was about her. This is also a song about heartache in a relationship. It contains a reference to Teen Spirit ("I still smell her on you") and a tattoo Kurt had on his forearm, which was a shield with letter K on it - K records logo(“I’ll arrest myself / I’ll wear a shield”).

It's all about jealousy. Who is fuckin' jealous (like me) and fighting against it will understand it well.

"like you but it couldn't work, trading off taking turns, don't regret a thing"

It is about a relationship where you like who you are with but you have this friend you like also and you try to make everything work but you have bitten off more then you can chew.
