Nirvana: Territorial Pissings Meaning
Territorial Pissings Lyrics
Cultures weren't opinions
Gotta find a way
I better wait
I better wait
Gotta find a way
I better wait
I better wait
Never met a wise man
If so it’s a woman
Gotta find a way
I better wait
I better wait

#1 top rated interpretation:God, why is it that so many people on this site think that the deepest, most insightful song writers wrote songs about themselves. Yeah, maybe Kurt escaped his childhood by dreaming he was an alien.
The fact that the lyrics talk about cultures being opinions and the quote from the Youngbloods "come on, people now..." which had everything to do with corruption and war in the '60s tell me this has much more to do with a deep interpretation of the world we live in. If you choose to believe he wrote this song for his own self, that is your opinion and you're entitled to it, but your opinion is very contained, limited, and shallow in drastic contrast with the man who wrote the song. -

#2 top rated interpretation:The lyrics couldn't be more wrong.
I belive he's saying: "When I was an alien, cultures weren't opinions."
And then: "Got to find a way - a better way. I better wait."

I always thought he was saying
"When I was an idiot,
contracts weren't a penny yet"
as a sarcastic critique on signing to a major label and "selling out" as may of his contemporaries accused him of doing. -
Ok to be clear the lyrics go like this When I was an alien Cultures were not Opinions Gotta find a way a better way when I'm there Gotta find a way a better way I'd better wait
-
I think Kurt is wasn't happy with the life he was living, so he wants a different one. A better one.
-
yea the last guy was right only it wasn't just dreams he actually believed he was an alien because of how different he felt from all the other kids.
-
those lyrics are wrong
when Kurt was younger he often had dreams in which he was an alien and was going back to his real family, away from his at home. He didn't have a very good home life as a child, and that was a way to escape -
