Pink Floyd: Echoes Meaning
Echoes Lyrics
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the...

Pink Floyd didn't choose the albatross to start the song with for the sake of it. As a matter of fact, Charles Baudelaire, a very skilled French poet had written a poem about the albatross. Basically, the albatross in the sky, in his field is a king. Sailors used to fetch albatrosses and force them down to the boat. Albatrosses cannot walk very well looking at how their feet can barely support their weight and size. So, albatrosses would do weird gestures on solid ground. In other words, Albatrosses are kings in the sky, and clowns on the ground. Not very sure what this brings to the song.

I know this may sound strange but some verses in Echoes makes me think of animal evolution on Earth; more precisely when marine animals evolved and start crawling on land...
"Something stirs and something tries
Starts to climb toward the light"
Maybe this is farfetched; what do you think ? -
This song in my opinion has Buddhist links -> When it reads "strangers passing in the street by chance to separate glances meet and I am you and what I see is me", it is about how god is felt by seeing you in others. The experiences in a meditative bliss and silence is reflected in "overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air and deep beneath...". The song has scary music in the middle where a person goes into a state where he starts experiencing new things and in the end he comes back to bliss and surrenders to the divine ->"cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes .Inviting and inciting me to rise..so I throw the windows wide and call to you across the sky".

This song to me takes you through evolution, it begins with the first signs of life in the ocean and somehow makes its way onto the land. Its also about possibilities.

The song is about dying, and going to heaven, and what it looks like and you feel like in heaven. Just my opinion.
