Red Hot Chili Peppers: By The Way Meaning
Song Released: 2002
By The Way Lyrics
To see the show tonight
And there's a light on
Heavy glow
By the way I tried to say
I'd be there... waiting for
Dani the girl
is singing songs to me
Beneath the marquee... overload
Steak Knife Card Shark
Con Job Boot...
-
dani is not real but is a person also reffered to in californacation as the "teenage bride with a baby inside" and her story ends in the song dani california.
-
i believe that "dani" is not a real person in this song but drugs because think about it why the hell would he be beneath a marquee with a girl singing songs to him I believe that dani is drugs and he's down there by himself doing drugs instead if being where he says hed try to be that's what I think...

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think the song is about him and his drug addiction about how he is nearly beaten the addiction " by the way I called to say I will be there", Dani is a made up characters which represents all the girls he knows, maby he is trying to say they helped him fight his addiction "dani the girl is singing songs to me me beneath the marque". This is what I think
-
In this song, anthony is talking about his time in the band before becoming fully clean for the first time. "by the way I tried to say i'd be there" is a reference to his irregularities when it came to pitching for rehearsals and shows, which eventually ended up with him being fired from the band briefly. It also is another song that refers to the enigmatic "dani" (as in "dani california", and in this song,"dani the girl that's singing songs to me beneath the marquee")i think this is one of the songs that best sums up rhcp's funk and rock ethos.
