Sarah McLachlan: River Meaning
Song Released: 2006
River Lyrics
cutting down trees,
putting up reindeer,
singing songs of joy and peace
oh i wish i had a river,
i could skate away on
it don't snow here,
it stays pretty green,
Im gonna make a lot of money
then I'm gonna quit...

Sarah. Could be singing about my mom. And I could be mom's baby girl. And she made me cry. Cause she made me say goodbye to something or someone. Because I can't have nothing besides her. To love. Or cherish. And that is me wanting skate on away on a river or to fly away any way I could to get away from her. I can daydream. All I want. But never can I go. Cause she can and she will crash all my dreams. Every single time.

To me, it IS assd song...especially the parting notes of Jingle Bells, in minor/decreasing tone. Very sad and somber.
She mentions she lost her baby, I think thats a loss of a love, not a child or infant, because "...he loved me so naughty..."
So....its beautifully sad, and her voice is intoxicating. I don't much care for the song, but when it starts I must listen. Crazy -
When I hear this song, I think the story is that he has depression, and had a struggle to be happy. While it's Christmas and everyone else is filled with joy, she just wants to escape. She says "I lossed the best baby, I ever had" I think her child was take from her because she couldn't take of her her :( it's a very sad but meaningful song

i see it as a very sad song...showing how while everyone else at christmas time is left with great bliss and joy one person needs and wants a river to escape from it all cuz they are in a darker place (such as losing a baby) and the one thing they want for christmas is a river to escape
to (skate away on) my only favourite christmas song because it explains the true meaning of christmas hope and the struggle to find it and I too want only river to skate away.
