Senses Fail: Buried A Lie Meaning
Buried A Lie Lyrics
The paper said a bullet got in your way
But I smell foul play, possible poisoning
I had to bring you in for questioning
I went to your grave, dug up your body
Brought it to my house, where you...

#1 top rated interpretation:OK, first off....you guys need to like read some non-literal poetry. Buddy is singing about a girl (which he probobly broke up with), and he's saying he feels broken because he doesn't want her to leave him(in comparison to a death) and wants her to come back...hes confused (brought you in for questioning). Other lyrics in this song such as "its not a suicide, its a crime.." probobly refer to her leaving him not because of what she did but something wrong he did. its all about love and betrayal baby.

#2 top rated interpretation:I think this is a song about a girl who was said to commit suicide hence the line "it's not a suicide it's a crime," but her boyfriend doesn't believe that's true. So he goes to the autopsy to tell the doctor what he found out. The girl had poison in her stomach so she couldn't have shot herself.
-
For me, the meaning of buried a lie could either be about a dying relationship, because of someone else ruining the relationship of the guy and his gf ("there had to be someone else present); it could also be about a boy falling in love with someone, and finds out the girl is "dead inside" and that he wants to help her feel love again before she loses faith in love ("we got to hurry up before the flesh decays away" 'love' in this meaning is the flesh)(in my opinion, this is the less-depressing and optimistic meaning); or it could literally be about a murdered girl and the guy wants to find the killer.
-
when i first heard it i thought it was about a guy whose girlfriend killed herself but he doesn't want to believe it, so hes making up all of these excuses in his head as to why it couldn't have been suicide and that someone must have killed her.
-
The best meanin I've heard is that the girl is dead to him now because she changed and he thinks someone else made her change or helped in her changing ("it's not a suicide its a crime") and he's trying to find out why
-
Okay I think when he says let's play doctor it means he's trying to fix either a relationship or a friendship or even someone because doctors fix people and his friend or gf left him to be with someone else but not on her own like someone was telling her to do it "it's not a suicide it's a crime" and that when she's dead it means she has none of her own personality like she is non existent anymore and when he say "I'll catch the murderer and send him away" he'll find the one person / people responsible and well change her but idk thats what I got out of it
-
I think that this is about a girl who was killed and people think that it was a suicide. He dug her body up and operated on it to find poison in her. Even though there was poison in her, how could it have gotten there if she was dead (At the time of death, poisons in stomach. How could she pull it, if she's dead.) He went downtown and did an autopsy on her body to find that she was murdered and he wants to catch the person who murdered her.

I just saw them live 2 days ago and right before they played this song, Buddy said "This is a song I wrote about a girl, who is unfortunately no longer alive. This one goes out to my dear friend Courtney!"
-
The song is a murder mystery
Part 1: Girl dies and supposedly shot herself
Part 2: Buddy believes that she was poisoned
Part 3: He digs up her corpse and does an autopsy
Part 4: He finds the evidence that she was poisoned
Part 5: He finds the murderer and gets him arrested
Part 6: He is awesome -
I listened to an interview Buddy did and the interviewer asked him what his least favorite song he's ever written was and he said 'Buried A Lie' then proceeded to say that he only wanted to see if he could write a 'story song' and that it took him forever to write and that he absolutely hates playing it live.
It doesn't really hold any meaning to it at all. But the 'story' is that a girl was found dead and everyone thinks she commited suicide but her boyfriend doesn't believe it so he tries to find out what really happened to her. -
Okay Buddy said he wanted to try to write a story song. Look it up it is.
-
At a concert about two years ago Buddy said that the next song was about a girl being stuck in a relationship to someone she didn't care about and how it she is living a lie. This song is what they played.
-
Its a fictional story about a guy who's girlfriend or ex-girlfriend is murdered and the narrator dug up her body because everyone else thinks she killed herself and he doesn't believe that. once he does this he finds out she is she was poisoned before she died. So now he is trying to tell everyone that she was murdered and didn't commit suicide but he's having a hard time getting people to believe him. If he doesn't get someone to believe him all the evidence will go away. Also he promises her that he will find out who killed her and make him go to prison for the crime
-
Buddy said on the bonus DVD for still searching that he just wrote the song to tell a story. he just wanted to sing about a "murder mystery"

Listen to the words.
It's about one of Buddy's Ex Girlfriends getting shot.
Not only does the song AND video show what happened.
and also in a magazine a few years ago Buddy explained it was bout an ex girlfriend getting shot and killed. -
