Simon & Garfunkel: Kathy's Song Meaning
Kathy's Song Lyrics
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls
And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart...

Despite my flip interpretation, I really like this song. Paul Simon has beautiful lyrics and imagery. You feel the pain and doubt, you hear the hope, the almost-desperate love. -
Quite simple really. Paul Simon's girlfriend Kathy had left him and gone back to England because she couldn't stand the pressure of his fame.

A beautiful melancholic song about someone coming to the realization of what he thought he knew as real. Is not as real as it seemed after falling in love with this lady. Coming to a conclusion that the only thing that is real for him is Kathy and the time spend being in love with her, who he believes is the only real thing[love] in his life right now in the present to hold on to and preserve. But he is or both are spiritually torn apart for whatever reason. Where he seems more in doubt about his beliefs, probably with god and religion when being away from the love that he shared with Kathy, when they were together that has been real to him. Where now he's mind is diffused all over the place, afraid not to turn himself into a deplorable basket case. Desperately hopeing not to lose the love for her while yearning to only be with her in England where she's at now. Dreaming and thinking about her there, while symbolically watching himself like ''the rain'' falling, ableing him by grace to continue,if only in thought to still be with Kathy in memories of love and caring until they meet again in hope not to ever die like the rain drops have fallen.

while watching the rain falls. every thing came to the song writer's mind those time when he was with kathy. where he was a miles away from her. flash back when he was in streets of england. Spending days with her as they go to sleep and waking up and how beautifully they starts their day. And how he missing her so much. Confused in everything. but generally I love the song.
