Squeeze: Another Nail for My Heart Meaning
Another Nail for My Heart Lyrics
She made call to a sympathetic friend,
And made arrangements.
the door was closed, there was a note.
I couldn't be bothered, maybe I'll choke.
No more engagements
With "Where have you beens?"
And...
-
astorian you are way off. The song is about a guy who spends too much damn time in the bar. She get annoyed with him and dumps him. Read the lyrics - "With "Where have you been?"'s And faraway frowns. Trying to be good, by not being 'round." She is giving him those looks by being at the bar and he's saying he's trying to be good by not bothering her by being around. Also - "That stupid old bug. That kills only love. I want to be good, is that not enough?" That stupid old bug is booze. And the best he can do is say he wants to be good and why isn't the fact that he wants to be good enough for her. Reread the lyrics from that point of view and you'll see it. The song isn't about someone cheating in a marriage.
-
This song tells the story of a man who's been cheating on his wife, and how he's falling apart since she left him.
She has been suspicious for a long time; every time he's been out for a while, she's interrogated him, asking where he's been. He always told feeble lies, like a little boy who's been caught my his mother with his hand in the cookie jar, but she saw through his lies.
Finally, she couldn't take any more. She packed her suitcase and went to stay with a friend. When her husband got home, all he found was a note saying she'd left him forever.
He's devastated, and goes to a bar, where he starts drinking heavily. There's a piano player in the bar, and every song he plays makes the newly-dumped husband feel worse and worse.
