This song tells the story of two lower-class 14 year olds who fall in love.
When the girl gets pregnant, the boy becomes desperate for money and starts doing burglaries. He gets caught and is sent o Borstal (a British juvenile prison). While he's there, she sends him a letter telling him she's decided to have an abortion.
When he gets released, she finds him, and they try to give their love another chance.
