Stars: Dead Hearts Meaning
Dead Hearts Lyrics
Tell me everything you saw
They had lights inside their eyes
They had lights inside their eyes
Did you see the closing window?
Did you hear the slamming door?
They moved forward, my heart died
They moved...

"They make me feel I'm falling down." That part makes me think she's like a medium or something.

Watch the movie like crazy and you will understand the song. Not for sensitive viewers though.

It seems to me like a young girl witnessed a murder or something of the sort and she's being asked questions by an investigator ~ZephyrHoundSXD

The comfort of ghosts maybe? That the ones we love never truly leave us? -
I've got it.
It's about those people who have been hurt emotionally so much by opposite sex and deaths ex-cetera; and how there are so many of these people everywhere torn apart merely psychologically and people can't see it. An event has hurt a group of people and the woman saw the event and so she understands and can see the pain within the people. That's why she is questioned but she wasn't affected.

I agree that this song fits with the shooting at sandy cook. It's slightly eerie that it was written before the shooting. Was listening to this the other day and I immediately started thinking of those kids at the school and it almost brought a tear to my eyes.
-
I believe it could be about the shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary. Even though this song was written before that, I think the songwriters intended us/the listeners to have their own meaning of the song.

I felt that it was about the holocaust. I imagine that a man is asking the women questions ("Tell me everything that happened, tell me everything you saw") about how she survived; and showing pictures to her of kids she once knew who passed away back then. She is an old lady now, answering the man; but when she speaks she sounds younger, showing how she was just a young girl when it had all happened. "Did you hear the shutting window, did you hear the slamming door? They moved forward and my heart died" = She had watched from her house as the Soilders of Germany back in Nazi-war time took the kids she once knew and slammed the door to the car. When it says "Did they follow you to town"= it shows that her memories of them linger around still; It should not be forgotten. "They had lights inside their eyes"= before they were taken(the kids, Jewish children, she once knew) they were full of light, happiness and hope. "They moved forward and my heart died"= when they Jewish people were being called out, and checked for the star of david on their clothing and put into the Gestapo cars, heading for the concentration camps. "I could say it but you wont believe me,You say you do but you don’t deceive me,It’s hard to know they’re out there,It’s hard to know that you still care" = She could say all the horrid things she had seen and what the Nazi's had done. They say they understand and believe, but they don't deceive her: to actually KNOW AND BELIEVE was to experience it. It's hard to know they are still out there: their souls or other surviors or even the remaining nazi S.S soilders who are alive. Hard to know that she still cares about people who have passed on, and is still worn down and changed ever since. It is actually quite clear to me.

I think it's about the end of the world when Jesus returns, and a girl is having a conversation with God or an angel..and talking about how she couldn't save "kids that she once knew" because it was too late to save them. And she had to watch them go to hell, and now they're all "dead hearts" to God. Kind of being used to push us to share the Good News while we're here.
-
I think its about a girl who died and became a ghost. And when she went back, she saw a lot of people that lost their innocents, even her friends. When she saw that her heart broke
-
This to me sounds like a situation I was in. It sounds like the girl's close friends had turned on her, becoming cruel and abusive. The "they had lights inside their eyes" could be like eyes glowing from the evil that's inside them. "Did you hear the slamming door?/ They moved forward and my heart died" The friends walked into a room the girl was in, and towards her. She also seems to ignore the "Did they seem afraid of you?" Question, kind of like she was shocked remembering it, and saying she once knew them, as if they were different people now. "Did you touch them, did you hold them?" That would be like hugging and comforting them when they were friends.
The boy sounds like a new friend of the girl's, who is still friends with her old ones, but generally concerned if she's okay. The girl doesn't believe he'll really understand, and how they're all dead hearts, as in dead to her. -
Dude I love this song and I think it's about aliens..."I want to believe" (insert xfiles theme song)
-
I think it's about someone loved (best friend or lover) that was murdered by the singer's ex-classmates or old friends, and she's trying to find out what happened to the deceased, who it was, how it happened, so she can try to find peace.. The lights inside their eyes would be vengefulness or maliciousness or cruelty, the closing window and slamming door would be when the deceased was surrounded.... Did they follow you to town = did they stalk you waiting for the perfect moment to strike.. They were kids that I once knew, Now they're all dead hearts to you = girl used to know them, because of the murder of deceased was caused by these people, now for the deceased they are dead hearts because they have no compassion... deceased doesn't understand how girl could have known such horrible people...
-
its about a girl that was talking to that man and she saw ghosts and he was asking her about them and she said that she use to know them
-
This song speaks to me because, I know i'm way off, but I interpret "Dead Hearts" as looking back at the person I us to be. When I start looking back at my life or looking at pictures, the person I us to be in those pictures or in my mind is like a ghost to me. Dead hearts of variations of people who we us to be. As time passes we all become a completely different people, it doesn't matter how hard you try you will change to the point if the 17 year old version of you was to see you today, he would be like who the hell are you..
