Styx: Boat on the River Meaning
Song Released: 1980
Boat on the River Lyrics
I need to go down, I need to come down
Take me back to my boat on the river
And I won't cry out any more
Time stands still as I gaze In her waters
She eases me down, touching me gently
With the waters...

In Greek mythology and Roman mythology, Charon or Kharon is a psychopomp, the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the river Styx that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead.
If I need to go into any greater detail, perhaps it tends to lose its allure.

MY INTERPRETATION : THE BOAT represent the passenger of which did not paddle properly to the right direction of which part of the river is safer to ancho, the place make him cry out loud. THE PASSENGER WANTED TO CORRECT OF WHAT IS WRONG, REPENTANCE SOMETIMES IS TOO LATE. WHILE THE RIVER REPRESENT THE LIFE AS WATER SIGNIFIES, it is up to life owner how to add plavor in it salty, sweets, etc according to your purpose. but not over salty or over sweet that makes harmful to your health. unplanned life like relationship, married for example would results to parting ways with your partner, individual suffers and the children pick crumbs. you want to jump out to get rid with your obligation. the river represent the road you are traveling, dept means danger if you do not know how to swim. the water current in the river sometimes is strong if you cannot balance the boat and not familiar with the terrain you might crush boulder and break the boat. thanks Enrique
