Styx: The Grand Illusion Meaning
The Grand Illusion Lyrics
and suddenly something comes on the TV and you say to yourself,
"Hey, how come my life ain't like that?"
Or maybe you're sittin' lookin' in a magazine,
you see some pictures, some...
-
Could also be about relating to several of The Grand Illusions that have passed into our DNA mindset from generation to generation. STYX wanted us to be awake to what was going on by the verses ''But don't be fooled by the radio, The T.V or the magazines'' ''They show you photographs of how your life should be'' ''But they're just someone else's fantasy''. For instance, one can say that we've been living in ''The Grand Illusion'' of many sorts. Like eversince 1938 when left wing Fascist ideas took root in the making of Orson Welles ''War of the Worlds'' radio broadcast show. Which was a ''imaginary grand illusion'' of fear and terror about the Martian invasion of Earth that was believed to be real to a lot of people listening to that radio show. Then years later the illusions kept following us on the other side of the coin that turned our heads up towards the moon, when Nassa's Apollo missions started to land men there as a ''visual grand illusion'' when seeing the landings on our T.V's and believing it was a real Land Ho! eyewitness news! in the making us proud and happy with uptomistic dreams that anything was possible now. All the while giving us faith in Men and Country.
-
A revealing song by STYX about ''lifting the veil'' in front of our eyes while being in and seeing the show to ground us in ''reality'' for a short moment in time with this song in the hope for the long run to be more awake about The Who,Why's and Way's of this world of entertainment to be careful and awake when hoping and chasing our dreams not to be fooled by the many Men-Made illusions created in this world that incorporated many false ungodly things to have us mezmorized by, as and in ''The Grand Illusion'' to not stray off course and get trapped by them foolishly from who we are in the real World of GOD that doesn't create illusions, only to raise us up and out of them to be as one with Him.
-
Even at a more day-to-day level. I think this song was ahead of its time considering the way people (not celebrities although they could be included) present themselves on Facebook. How people like to brag about the wonderful things they get to do (that you don't) or acceptance they have among "friends".
-
The song is saying that celebrity, fame and stardom are all just illusions.
Fans who come out to see rock stars perform THINK their musical idols are far cooler, smarter and happier than everybody else. Many a fan looks at a celebrity and thinks, "Man, I wish I was HIM! My life sucks, but THAT guy has it all!"
But Styx are here to tell you, "Don't believe it. The celebrities you either envy or admire are just PEOPLE, with the same faults, fears, insecurities and problems as you. Look at us- we're big rock stars now, but when you get right down to it, WE'RE as confused by life as everybody else." -
Welcome to the grand illusion
Come on in and see what's happenin'
Pay the price get your tickets for the show
'''''ah! this looks epic doesn't it?
The stage is set, the band starts playin'
Suddenly your heart is pounding
You're wishing secretly you were a star
''''we all long for something more''''''
But don't be fooled by the radio
The TV or the magazine
They'll show you photographs
Of how your life should be
But they're just someone else's fantasies
'''''It" is not real'''''''
So if you think your life is complete confusion
'Cause you never win the game
Just remember that it's a grand illusion
And deep inside we're all the same
We're all the same
'''''''self explanitory''''
So if you think your life is complete confusion
'Cause your neighbor's got it made
Just remember that it's a grand illusion
Deep inside we're all the same
America spells competition
Join us in our blind ambition
Get yourself a brand new motor car
'''no idea'''
But someday soon we'll start to ponder
What on earth is this spell we're under
We made the grade and still we wonder
Who the hell we are
''we dont know what we are until we ARE!!!'''
peace out
