System of a Down: Holy Mountain Meaning
Holy Mountain Lyrics
Can you feel their haunting presence?
Can you feel their haunting presence?
Liar, Killer, Demon
Back to the river Aras
Someone's blank stare deemed it warfare
Liar, Killer, Demon
Back to the river Aras
Freedom,...

pulled this off of wikipedia ;)
All of the SoaD members are of Armenian descent, and some of their songs (e.g. "P.L.U.C.K." on their 1998 eponymous debut album) allude to Armenian issues such as the 1915 Armenian Genocide by the Turkish government.
The lyrics of "Holy Mountains" refer to the Aras River, which is found on the border of Turkey. The lyrics of the song are about Mount Ararat, which is considered the national symbol of Armenia, but has been in Turkish territory since the early 1920s. The Book of Genesis identifies this mountain as the resting place of Noah's Ark. As bass guitarist Shavo Odadjian says, "that's one of our national landmarks, like the Armenian soccer team is called Ararat. Imagine if the Grand Canyon was taken over by Mexico ... wait, let me take that back, bad analogy."
and...
A live bootleg of this song, titled "Holy Mountain" (in the singular), leaked on the Internet before the album was published.
It is rumoured to follow Lonely Day late in 2006 as the third single from Hypnotize. -
the song is about the armenians and the genocide. The turk govt butchered them--the mountains on mount ararat belong to armenia, not turkey
-
Sorry mate, but Serj said himself the song's about Mount Ararat which appears on the Armenian coat of arms. It's now in Turkish territory (since 1915) and is suppossed to be the place where Noah's Ark finally came to land.
Besides, Sinai is in Egypt! -
Ok, Armenian here, because none of you got it.
in 1915, The Armenians were mercilessly murdered by the Turks. They murdered everyone they could find. Holy mountain is Mt. Sinai, River Aras was the only boundary between the Turks and Armenians. They lied, killed, sodomized and we Armenians see Turks as horrible demons.
That does it -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
Well actualy dude the accusations are for the turks, which would be the other group "LIAR,KILLER,DEMON" as in how the turks lied to the Armenians about their status in the goverment and Armenian's future, killer because they killed 1.5 million armenians, and demon because of all their actions and the holy mountain would be Ararat.

Where to begin...
"Can you feel their haunting presence"
This is obvious. A group of people (probably the Armenians) are hiding from their enemy. They're scared.
"LIAR!! KILLER!! DEMON!!"
Tese are acusations and condemnations being thrown at the group of people (Armenians)
"Someone's mouth said paint them all red"
This means that someone with great power told the enemy of the Armenians that they were all bad and needed to be killed.
The holy mountain in the next verse is some kind of religious symbol to one of the two groups.
When the tempo picks up, I think that it is the Armanians gaining confidence and strength.
"They have returned, resting on the mountainside" (the holy mountainside)
the enemy sees the armanians and is angry,
"We have learned that you have no HONOR!!! MURDERER!!! SODOMIZER!!!"
This is the armanians attacking the enemy and making their own acusations about what they have discovered.
"FREEDOM!!!"
common you get it.
the armenians gain their freedom
I don't know what the "river aras" is though
but I think that is where the Armenians fled to and sent their enemy to.
