#1 top rated interpretation:The song is not about suicide or a revenge killing here. C'mon guys this is SOAD. Every other song they put out refers to the immorality of death and killing. This song was about the loss of a child - not a girlfriend. The name Clementine was chosen for a reason. The folk-song "My Darlin' Clememtine" was about a man losing his daughter to drowning. The lyrics of Revenga my be murky at best, but this was done purposely, almost all writers and poets do this. Undoubtedly the song is about an abortion performed against the father's will. Since the decision was out of his hands, his revenge will be the regret that she will feel in the future. "it's in the making".
Also - the "Hallelujah Wink" line refers to to the pro life stance he is taking. This is typically a Christian dogma. -

#2 top rated interpretation:Call me nuts but I think the lyrics are talking about suicide as a form of revenge. "Bleeding in a sink" (slitting your wrists) "choking with a link" (hanging yourself) "killing with a stink" (making a huge mess/fuss about it) "poisining a drink burning up" ingesting cyanide. All the references to giving up on or killing shrinks, giving up on therapy. "Oh my sweet revenge will be yours for the taking it's in the making" As I said someone planning their suicide as a form of revenge forcing that guilt on in this case the girl that laughed at him and sent him away."getting on the brink" obviously this guy was about to snap anyway and this rejection was just the last straw. "Shoulda been could been woulda been would been you" maybe he's saying like you're the one who could have saved me but now it's too late.
I know this is a morbid interpretation but it seems to fit. -

#3 top rated interpretation:I think that both interpretations of suicide
The girl wanted the abortion and she had it , the dude is completely angry about it since he didn't want it to take place so he says ''my sweet clementine'' referring to his dead baby.(''Clementine'' is used in lots of stories and songs as the daughter lost in a drowning or another situation .. don't know the exact source ) ..
So he says to his daughter that HER revenge is in the making .. he is saying that he or something will avenge her death .. maybe it's the regret of the girl after having the abortion will kill her .."Bleeding in a sink" (slitting wrists) "choking with a link" (hanging one's self)"poisoning a drink burning up" (ingesting cyanide) .. ''giving up'' (on therapy) .. etc .. OR maybe HE is the one who will avenge her by killing his girlfriend .. he is thinking about the many ways he is gonna do it .. make her bleed in the sink .. choke her with a(link) .. or poisoning her .. push her to suicide by regret .. maybe by giving up therapy ..
''Poisoning a drink
Bleeding in a sink
Choking with a link
Killing with a stink
Just your mother's
HOE'' he is talking to his girlfriend who killed his baby against his will
(details in the 1st paragraph)
''Oh my sweet revenge
Will be yours
for the taking
It's in the making,
baby
a-a-a-a-h'' he is talking to his dead baby saying that vengeance is getting cooked up for her hoe mother who agreed on the abortion against his will and killed her .
(details in the 1st paragraph) -
In my opinion I think it's about a guy getting revenge on his lover because she got an abortion.
"Poisoning a drink
Bleeding in a sink
Choking with a link
Killing with a stink"
He is planning to murder his wife and coming up with ways of doing it.
"All my sweet revenge
Will be yours for the taking
It's in the making, baby"
He's talking to his baby, saying he WILL have revenge and kill the mother.
"I saw her laugh
Then she said, "Go away""
The wife clearly doesn't care, she laughs it off and tells the guy to go away.
"Shoulda been, coulda been
Woulda been, woulda been you."
He's saying how it should be the wife to die not his baby.

I think he is saying in the song as far as the part when he says my revenge is yours for the taking means he knows she just had a abortion and he is about to get revenge on her by killing her, hints (taking)like she took the baby without him knowing and he found out, and when he says just your mothers Hoe and other things he is thinking of all the ways he would kill her, you know hints poisoning your drink and other things, that is if he means it in the pro life extremist ways.

i think the "couldve been you" is suggesting you wouldve done the same someone you love never gave you a chance to show it.

Maybe I'm too insensitive but I can't accept that this song is about suicide as a revenge for turning him down.
My feeling is that he is about to take his revenge in the name of someone else. That's why he says "My sweet revenge will be yours for the taking" -
clearly its about getting revenge on a girl who rejected the person in the song. all the verses hav a way t kill the girl. "poising a drink" is about killing her wit poison. "bleeding in the sink" is killing her over a sink. and "killing with a stink" is him gassing her somehow or sufficating her. at the end wen daron starts to sing, he is saying the things that the girl said to the boy that wants revenge.
either that or the thing about suicide everybody else put down:) -
hmm i think it's about someone being rejected by a girl, "i saw her laugh, then she said go away" "shoulda been woulda been coulda been you" and to take revenge, he's commiting suicide to put it on her conscience.
=D -
Ok I think that just about all of you are right but your not putting in together right it's about a guy who has a girlfriend who breaks up with him for a better man he then plots his revenge on the two thinking of ways to kill them both that's why he uses the reference just your mothers ho because she cheated on him and that makes her a ho
-
I think this songs about abortion and how the guy does not want to go through with it but the girl doesnt want the baby.
-
I don't get when he says hallelujah wink that's the only verse I don't get anyone got an idea I don't.
-
I agree that it's about rejection, but I think he is rejected because there is another guy. This would explain why she would laugh at him because he didn't know about the other guy. This would also explain why he calls her a ho. The "shoulda been, coulda been, woulda been woulda been you" I think means he went ahead with the killing, but he killed the guy instead of the girl or vice versa and whoever he realized that the one left alive had reason to die
