System of a Down: Soil Meaning
Soil Lyrics
Out of control boy without a dad,
Shot the gun that startled my life,
While I drove him with a forty-five.
Friends for years images in red,
Blew off his own mother-fuckin head,
Confidence, death,...

#1 top rated interpretation:While most of you are accurate about darons friend.
the song is named soil.
because soil is what bring forths life.
daron does not blame his friend for his decision.
"A man can't avoid what he's meant to do,
When he's meant to do it,
Even if he doesn't really want to,"
and the bottom line of this song is
Don't you realize,
"Evil, lives in the mother-fucking skin"
most people think of evil as ghosts dark figures demons and the like. but the truth is. and I'm going to say it the most evil are mankind/
"Don't you realize,
Evil, lives in the mother-fucking skin"
instead
its the soil he was raised in.
that were all raised in.
hollywood is some nasty soil for sure. -

#2 top rated interpretation:Expanding on the previous post.
Darons friend commit suicide ("...Blew off his mother fucking head") and he blamed himself ("evil lives in the motherfucking skin") because the were "best of friends, painted in red" (maybe meaning photos)
that's what I think, anyway. -
its about his friend commiting suicide. soil was the name in the band he was in. it was kinda like pre system of a down.the lyrics blew of his mother------- head is a example of the song meaning.
-
I think that this is Serj's ose friend who killed himself("blew off his own motherfucking head"; "A man can't avoid to do what he is meant to do when he wants to do it"). At the end of the end they blame God("Why the fuck did you take him away from us you motherfucker"). I really think this is Serj's close friend, because the pain in his voice can be heard.
-
this song is about the bassist of soil (band before system), and the suicide that he did, but he was a very close friend of Serj, not Daron
-
System of a down's original name was soil, so thts y the song is called soil. Yes, it may be about Malakian's friend commiting suicide, but the last sentence is, "why the fuck did you take him away from us you motherfucker." serj is not asking God that, but he is asking the person who commited suicide that, as if he were still there. That is why most of the song goes, "dont you know that evil lives in the mother fucking skin," because he is reffering to people's choices about what to do, but they always make bad decisions.

@ love dust 111 this song was made way before chop SUEY learn to spell!

It is most likely that this song is about Daron's friend committing suicide. Some have stated that Daron is angry at his friend for doing this, but it seems that lines like "a man can't avoid what he's meant to do" and "why the fuck did you take him away from us you mother fucker" suggests he doesn't blame his friend, rather someone else, i.e. The mother fucker he's referring to in the last lyric of the song. The person he's referring is either some sort of religious figure such as God or just no one in particular, rather it's just a way for him to vent his anger.
My consolations go out to Daron for the loss of his friends and my compliments to System for making an awesome song. -
Don't know exactly how relevant it is here, but both Serj and Daron were in a band called Soil just before system of a down. Perhaps the name is in part a homage to them?
-
Oh yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I said that he committed suicide I've never heard of any soil songs. Could someone give me a link to the band if you could find one?
-
If you mean the first drummer of soad he isn't dead he just injured his arm and couldn't drum anymore but if you mean soil's drummer I didn't know they had a second drummer in the first place, and I thought they just played soil the way they did when daron, serj, and shavo were in the band soil. plz comment about this if you have any information

I didn't know it was about Malakian's friend, but that would explain the title: "Soil" was a band Malakian was in before SOAD, which might have included the suicidal one?
-
This song contridicts the meaning of "chop sewy" because even thought his friend killed him self he wants him to be at peace.
"now you fly in peace,i hope, my friend"
sysem of a down might think that it was fate (that his friend killed himself)
"a man can't avoid what he's meant to do, when he's meant to do it, even if he doesn't really want to"
and he blames god that he died.
"why the fuck did you take him away from us you mother fucker?" -
This song is about daron's freind that died
