The Bravery: Honest Mistake Meaning
Honest Mistake Lyrics
They don't mean a thing to you
They move right through you
Just like your breath
But sometimes
I still think of you
And I just wanted to
Just wanted you to know
My old friend...
I swear I never meant for this
I never...

I believe it’s about drug addiction and he feels remorse as it was an honest mistake to get caught up in the addiction. And he calls it his “friends” so that leads me to believe it was several drugs …

I think its about a guy that had a one night stand with a close girl friend..for her it was just a one time thing..."People. They don't mean a thing to you. They move right through you. Just like your breath."
he regrets it now because its ruined the friendship they once had. -
The rough agony of the decay of a mutual lustful sidewinding relationship. Talking to himself in disillusionment, asking forgiveness to himself. As his mind body and soul..., his whole self is dying becuase he knew. He had known she'll be the one to blame. As she crushed his life into small particles of unknown misunderstandings. He is aching now, but he sees himself the only one to blame. on and off speaks outloud but no where is she to blame. so he blames himself. sidewinding into an escapade that leads to nowhere... she is his only way home.

This is one of my favorite songs. It's also a song that's extremely open to interpretation, because besides the chorus, there's only 2 different, short sections of vocals, with very ambiguous lyrics.
The way I interpreted it, there's a guy and his girlfriend he's been with for a few months. They're in bed, having sex. Suddenly, he shouts out the wrong name. The girl in bed takes offense, and thinks the guy is cheating on her. He tries to convince her that it was just an honest mistake, a slip of the tongue, which it really was, but she'll have none of it. Over the next few weeks, it spirals out of control as her paranoia increases. She checks his e-mail and looks through his mail, and looks for any signs he's being unfaithful. Finally, because of his perceived unfaithfulness, she breaks up with him. The guy is left wondering how something so minor could lead to this, and is brokenhearted because it was all just an honest mistake. -
I think this song is about a guy that goes out with one of his closet girl friends. But he later finds out that it was an honest mistake and he regreats it. He misses her but he realizes that by going out with her he ruined their friendship. Kind of depressing.
