The Cab: Angel with a Shotgun Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Angel with a Shotgun Lyrics
An angel with a shotgun, shotgun, shotgun..)
Get out your guns, battles begun,
are you a saint, or a sinner?
If loves a fight, than I shall die,
with my heart on a trigger.
They say before...
-
It's destiel , obviously.
Spn <3 -
There is so much Castiel and Destiel inthis song.
"angel with a shotgun" shows that Castiel is not only fighting for humans, but with humans. He has his angel blade and his angel powers. A shotgun is not an angels weapon, it's as human as it gets.
"are you a saint or a sinner?" Castiel finds out that a lot of angels are corrupt and he doesn't know who's a saint and who's a sinner anymore. We know that he started feeling doubt very eraly on.
"If love's a fight, then I shall die, with my heart on a trigger"
Castiel has a deep love for humanity and shares a profound bond with Dean. He is more than willing to die for both and actually does. "Too much heart was always Castiels probelm"
"They say before you start a war
You better know what you're fighting for
Well baby, you are all that I adore"
He was tought to obey and follow rules, until he raised Dean from perdition und started questioning his orders. Cas wanted to know what he was fighting for and when he found out that heaven wasn't what he thougt it was the Winchesters showed him free will. He decided to fight for the huamns, specifically Dean and Sam.
"I don't care if heaven won't take me back"
He turns his back on heaven and fights against his own brothers and sisters. Castiel declares war on heaven and knows he probably won't be welcome anymore, but he does it anyway.
"I'll throw away my faith, babe
Just to keep you safe"
Cas wanted to tell Dean as soon as he found out heavens plans for him. From the moment he found Dean in hell Castiel wanted to keep him save. He throws away his faith, he falls for Dean. Castiel has starts having emotions and he breaks allegiance with heaven.
"And I wanna live, not just survive"
If he wnated to surivive he'd stay on heavens side, obey, let the apocalypse happen. The chances of chosing the Winchesters and surviving are basically nonexistent and he does die more than once. What he chooses is living. Castiel choses feeling and free will, he chooses life
"Don't you know you're everything I have?"
Having lost heaven/his family Dean and Sam Winchester are all he has.
"Sometimes to win you've got to sin, don't mean I'm not a believer"
Castiel is breaking the rules, but he's doing it for the right reasons. He's always doing what he deems right and for a long time after having turned his back on heaven he searhces for god, because he still belives.
"And Major Tom will sing along yeah, they still say I'm a dreamer"
Mayor Tom singing along shows again that he is on humanities side and fighting for them. Castiel is a dreamer, becasue he still belives that he can change things for the better and save everyone from the apocalypse. He still belives in god and good things. -
To me, it's Jason Todd. Except the whole love part. I mean, he he is, in his own opinion, an angel with a shotgun. He left the bat-family, and he's still good, but more violent. The whole thing about he doesn't care if heaven takes him back, is kind of his relationship with the bats. He doesn't care if the good guys accept his decision. It's his decision. Or maybe that's just a geek searching for refrences inside me. You decide.

I think the song is about an Angel (a real Angel from the heavens) who fell in love with a human. Well, since Angels are not supposed to be tempted to lust, as far as I know, if they will, then they'd be called a traitor.
Soooooo, the angel and the human love each other so much, but their love is kind of forbidden. The angel is supposed to be following their rules, but in the lines:
"If love is what you need,
a soldier I will be."
THAT means... the angel is doing EVERYTHING to the girl he loves to salvage their feelings for each other including disregarding God'd rules.
And about the "gay" stuff mentioned just on the other comments, honestly, with all due respect, IT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE. It doesn't connect much to the whole lot song. God! The protagonist here is SOOO in love with the girl, and it's not pretty accurate to call him a gay. -
I think that the song has a lot of meanings but the most obvious one I believe it shows is the power someone can have in order to protect or fight for someone who needs to be fought for like family. I think that this song has been made to provoke the emotion of sadness yet it's main line "Angel with a shotgun" shows power and the defence of a loved one.
-
I think it's about a gay guy fighting for what he believes. When it says, "I don't care of heaven don't take me back,"he's coming out of the closet and not going back.
-
First time I heard this song I seriously thought some fan made it. It literally describes what Castiel did and said in Supernatural. He was a soldier of faith then he let go of that to protect Dean, and became a soldier in Dean's war. Shotgun included. Heaven won't take him back. He even sinned but he still believes in good.
-
I think it means that no matter what happens, parents will always protect their young
Like a mother that protects their children from ANY threat, so does the dad.
Together they become angel armed with shotguns vs human armed with sticks.
Even Death himself would fear this.
Besides an angry (Defensive) mother alone is one of the world's most deadliest forces, almost like Tex from Red vs Blue (But WAY more awesome and badass) -
this is diff cas song. faling love, cas sings this Dean on supernatual <3
-
It's definitely a Destiel song. Cas rebelled against heaven for Dean to fight for what was right.
-
We all know it's supernatrual related. It castiel singing to dean....It's a destiel thing.
-
Definitely Destiel. I mean really.
-
I think this means even the nicest person (angel) will protect their loved one to the fullest extent (with a shotgun)
-
It is about Destiel
-
The song is probably talking about a person who falls in love, enough that they would do anything to protect and fight for the person they love. When the song says "even if Heaven doesn't take me back" it's saying that the person would even do something so extreme as to get them sent to Hell for their object of affection. Kind of like a huge, dramatic way of saying "I love you, more than anything".
