Just Like Heaven Lyrics

Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream she said
The one that makes me laugh she said
And threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I’ll run away with you
I’ll run away with...

I think the song is about a guy who is reflecting memories about a girl he loves. It opens up with a memory of her asking him to do something that she enjoys, and she then asked him to show her how he does it. "Spinning on that dizzy edge I kissed her face and kissed her head" is refering to both of them not taking risk. The guy (who is probably Robert Smith) isn't willing to take the same risk that she is. The risk could be getting married, or becoming more involved in a relationship, or it may very well just be dancing on a cliff, like the music video depicts. I am thinking that the far away line involves risk, but could be a reference to the Cure touring. It is difficult for bands and their supposed girlfriends to stay happy when one of the people in the relationship is in fact touring. He is staying away from the cliff, even though he knows she loves him.

After not taking the risk, the guy is fantasying about the girl. He could have taken the risk, but he didn't so he sits there alone. Like the classic saying, "There are plently fish in the sea," in the case of this song, she is one of the fish, and she got "swept away by the ocean" by either some other guy, or maybe by time...which would mean she is dead.

The guy blew his opportunity of hooking up with his "dream" girl, by choosing not to take the risk. He realizes he made the mistake, but it had been far too long, and she has been swept away. He realizes she is the only girl that he ever did love, and now she is gone. However, rather than being completly down about it, he chooses to reflect on the good times they had by repeating the "Soft and only" part toward the end, however, the "Lost and lonely" couplet shifted from refering to her to referring to him. She was lost and lonely, but now he is. All he can do now and reflect on his memories, and his memories of his time shared with her is just like heaven.

A man who is a little older in age and who has lived a good yet somewhat unfulfilled life meets the one thing that he has been missing all along. She brings him what he wants to believe is true love. She makes him smile, she builds his confidence, she makes him glow in ways that he has never known before. Yet, he is cautious since he knows that life is full of hard lessons and while he wants to believe that she is all that he needs, he is still holding back. He is lonely and lost when he is not with her and she fills his mind when they are apart. He knows that if he loses her and if he slips back into that raging sea that he has known for so many years, that he will never forgive himself. He loves this woman with all of his breath and soul and he cannot lose that. SB

I haven't read every response, but think all of these interpretations are wrong.

My interpretation is that the song is about a dream, one in which he dreams of the perfect girl, and she's madly in love with him.

"Why are you so far away?" -- he's slowly waking, and the vision of this perfect woman is slowly fading.

"Daylight licked me into shaped..." -- he awakens and, with sadness, finds that his dream girl is gone, and he's alone except for the memories and the realization that he was only dreaming, and that she's "just like heaven".

The song, “Just Like Heaven”, is a fun happy song. It is about two people enjoying each other’s company being playful in a relationship. He is on tour and they do not get to spend as much time as other people do together. So, the song is saying, dreaming about her is “Just like Heaven.” He misses her but even though she is not there physically, she is in his heart.

Maybe she was not a dream and really had drowned in the ocean, leaving him without the only girl he loved.

He finds the perfect girl, but he is reserved, “why are you so far away from me”, but he’s as in love with her as she is with him. She’s perfect for him. Heaven. But he lets her slip away, lost to the “raging sea” inside of him, a reference to his unconscious and the depth and power it has over us, even when we find heaven, we can doubt, and it can slip away, the relationship a victim to the deep unconscious forces within him. He’s awakening a few days later after a bender over losing her.

Two people in love. He can't believe he has this girl. He has always loved her from afar, but he is in love with her. I believe she either had someone else in her life, or did not stick around and wait on him to settle down.
Beautiful song. I bought the cassette when it came out. They performed this song at the Grammys and it was perfection.

He was at the beach (along the edge). He met a mermaid and they fell in love. This song is literally about a man falling in love with a mermaid.

And I think there was no girl at all in the end...

He woke up and realized that he is in love with his internal "girl" inside him, it's perfect for him, as it's an mirror image of himself, hence it's like heaven.

    Just like heaven

I believe that the song perfectly describes what being "inlove" is. Atleast for the first stanza and all chorus. All the excitement and mystery of getting overcome with joy and bliss that makes anything and everything else inconsequencial and mute.

The second stanza visualize how it is to give devotion and tenderness and feel that you still can give more. Then she or he reciprocates every ounce back because she or he feels exactly the same.

Third stanza comes turmoil and disconnect from the dreamy calm of the ocean depths and set adrift and alone alone alone. Awoken by turbulence of the "raging sea". A melancholic metaphore either for a dream, tragedy or old age. Even for a day, an hour, a second or even for just a moment with her or him is worth the days, the months and the years without. Take bitter for the sweet.

I think that a girl was in love with him but he wasent shure if he was with her.And they went out as freinds and they were joking(show me show me show me how you do that trick the one that makes me scream,ec)near by a cliff(spinnig on that dizzy edge)and then she fail of the cliff and drowend but he just stayed their looking down and then he fail asleep and dreamed of what just happened(I kissed her face i kissed he head and dreamed of all the ways i had to make her glow. Why are you so far away oh wont you know that im in love with you that im in love with you). Then he woke up(daylight liked me into shape i must have been asleep for days and moving lips to breath her name i opened up my eyes and found myself alone alone)and saw thesea but only then did he relize he was truly in love with her and she was deep in his hart(alone aove a raging sea that stole the only girl i loved and drowned her deep inside of me)but while he was remembering the dream he rememberd that he dreamed her as if she was an angle and he said to her (ou soft and only and she said you lost and lonly and he said you just like heaven.)

This song is my favorite song. This song is about a guy who is in love with a girl, but she doesn't notice him. So, he starts to dream about being with her. When he says, "Won't you ever know that I'm in Love with you," he's saying she'll never know he's head over heels for her. And when he says, "Your like a dream," It means this is to good to be true. And when it says, "It drowned her deep inside of me," It means that it was only a dream and his dream of her is gone only to be true inside of him. I understand what Robert Smith is tring to say because I'm going through the same thing. Love this song. Robert Smith you rock.

This song is about a girl he met perhaps more than one time in another reality. She is also madly in love with him (Show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream she said The one that makes me laugh she said And threw her arms around my neck)

The experience was unlike anything he could experience on earth (Spinning on that dizzy edge I kissed her face and kissed her head And dreamed of all the different ways I had To make her glow). That is why he makes a reference to heaven.

But unfortunately she is seperated from him by a physical barrier (Why are you so far away? she said Why won’t you ever know that I’m in love with you).

He implies she is like a siren or an angel- out of this world(Strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You’re just like a dream).

He awakes from the heavenly experience:(Daylight licked me into shape I must have been asleep for days).

He realizes she is not there anymore (Alone above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved). She will always be with him (And drowned her deep inside of me).

It is truly beautiful--- this song!!!!

I believe this song "Just like heaven" By the Cure is about this girl who is madly in love with this guy and she loves him and loves him, and he's not sure if he loves her. They drift apart one way or another and he figures out he really did love her. :/

This song will forever touch my heart. Most of us can find great truth in this song.

A man, young, sees all the opportunity before him but this woman is occupying his mind. She gives him smiles and confidence. She builds his esteem by the tone of her voice.

Reality check, he is afraid to let the feelings stretch past their due date. He is letting her go. As he lets go of this glorious probably gorgeous woman...he knows he is in fact the loser. He still walks the plank and she is gone. Forever. But the memory of this one particular person will always remain...hmmm?

This happened to me before, has it happened to you? Is it not strange how this person always makes a reappearance right before you have to make a decision yourself...too little too late they say :) Oh love!

Its about a man who can't commit to a love. It's too much work, "And dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow". It's too late when he realizes the err in his ways and she is gone. The "dizzy edge" and "raging sea" probably refer to all the hopes and fears of taking that chance at love.
