Goodnight, Travel Well Lyrics

The unknown distance to the great beyond
Stares back at my grieving frame
To cast my shadow by the holy sun
My spirit moans with a sacred pain
And it's quiet now
The universe is standing still

There's nothing I can say
There's nothing we can do...

I've heard people say it has to do with sex slavery... it kind of sounds like it if you listen to the lyrics.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I know this isn't what the Killers wanted it to be, but when I hear it, this is what it means to me: it's somebody moving far away, overseas, and it's the good-bye song of somebody who loves them.

"The unknown distance to the great beyond
Stares back at my grieving frame"
The ocean is so wide, I don't know the distance; the great beyond, I don't know the place you're moving to. Stares back at my grieving frame: no matter how much I look at it, it's not shrinking, it's taunting me, and I'm grieving.

"To cast my shadow by the holy sun
My spirit moans with a sacred pain"
The holy sun tries to cast my shadow there, but even it isn't powerful enough. I can't be there with you. And I wish I could.

    "And it's quiet now
    The universe is standing still"
You've left; it's quiet, the universe is standing still, I'm the only one moving, since you've left.

    "There's nothing I can say
There's nothing we can do now
    There's nothing I can say
There's nothing we can do now"
And I can't convince you to stay, and we are drifting apart, and I can't take the distance.

"And all that stands between the souls release ?
    This temporary flesh and bone"
Temporary flesh and bone; we can't touch anymore. The soul's release has nothing left, because flesh has gone.

"We know that it's over now
I feel my faded mind begin to roam"
We both know we can't keep up our friendship/love, it's over. My faded mind - because I was always thinking with you, now my mind has faded and begins to roam, because you are no longer there to help.

    "Every time you fall
    And every time you try
    Every foolish dream
    And every compromise
    Every word you spoke
    And everything you said
Everything you left me, rambles in my head"
I remember everything you did, everything you told me, you've left me memories, and I keep reminiscing.

    "There's nothing I can say
There's nothing I can do now
    There's nothing I can say
There's nothing I can do now"
    Again; You can't stay.

"Up above the world so high"
Up above the world; your plane, so high, I can't reach it.

    "And everything you loved
    And every time you try"
Again - I remember everything you loved. Your tastes. And everything you tried to do.
    "Everybody's watching
    Everybody cry"
Everybody's watching you go; Please, everybody, cry, give a reason for you to stay.

    "Stay, don't leave me
The stars can wait for your sign
    Don't signal now"
Please, don't leave, please don't go. You don't need to leave to reach the top, don't leave now.

"And there's nothing I can say
There's nothing I can do now
    There's nothing I can say
There's nothing we can do now"
I can't do anything for us anymore. You've left. And I cant convince you.

    "Goodnight, travel well
    Goodnight, travel well"
Well... Goodnight, travel well. I've accepted you're leaving.

"And there's nothing I can say
There's nothing I can do now"
But I still don't like it.

this song was written by brandon to his mother when she die but obiously it can be interpreted like a good-bye song, its a sad one but it express the pain when a loved person went away from our lifes.
