Palmcorder Yajna Lyrics

Holt Boulevard
Between Gary and White
Hooked up with some friends at the Travelodge
Set ourselves up for the night

Carpenter ants in the dresser
Flies in the screen
It will be too late by the time we learn
What these cryptic symbols mean

And I...

The lyrics are fairly literal here: A man meets up with friends to go on a bender in a cheap motel room. They are yearning to find meaning in little details, and they are feeling emotions ranging from joyous laughter to paranoia. There is the feeling of imminent threat that they’re going to be found out. The clothing references indicate they are poor. Imagery in the dreams reflect tweakers—addicts—leaching off him; hidden cameras—the fears of an organization always watching him; and a sterile factory—producing possibly the paraphernalia (needles) and junk food (soda) and other products they are using. The narrator indicates he feels like their lives are worthless and vengeance against himself & his death along with present company would be fair; hoping they’ll be incinerated in the event of an intrusion while they sleep. In conclusion, sometimes we want to escape the burdens in our reality by using drugs, and might find people worse off than we to indulge in. Ultimately the elated feelings are short lived and when it’s over the crash of depleted dopamine makes said burdens heavier. This is a “please learn from my mistakes” song, depicting the actions of someone in a particularly low point in their life.
