I'll Stand By You Lyrics
Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
Don't be ashamed to cry
Let me see you through
'cause I've seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you
You don't know what to do
Nothing you confess
Could make me...

#1 top rated interpretation:when i listen to this song i feel Jesus talking to me. Like he's saying when we are sad he wants us to talk (pray) to him about it and he will help us and not let anyone hurt us. The part i love is when the singer says "nothing you confess can make me love you less" that just screams Jesus he loves us no matter what we have done! he knows our dark side and he still wants to help us. when we are at a crossroad in life he will see us through to the right choice. thats what i get from this song. i'll probably get a'lot of heat about it but oh well! God bless you all =)

#2 top rated interpretation:I have heard this song a thousand times and always thought it was about a love between a guy and a girl until one day I was going through a rough time in life and started talking/praying to God in my car on the way home from work and asked him to please help me and this song came on. I finally got it, he was talking to me through the lyrics. I bawled my eyes out and it was like I was hearing this song for the very first time.

I always thought it was from a perspective of a couple who deeply loved each other. One of them screwed up and had an affair, they felt so guilty, and depressed. So the one spouse says nothing you confess could make me love you less. I’ll stand by you. I like everyone else’s perspective about it being from Jesus and his agape love for us his children. That brings a smile to think just how much he loved us that and what he went through to prove it. It’s a beautiful song for sure.

Had this song randomly playing in my head over and over at full volume, its such a beautifully written song and sung so gently and sincerely. Its a song of pure unconditional love and recently I had been thinking about the future and how bad my life is, feeling like I cant escape and worrying about everything, I speak to God for reassurance and to help calm my fears and ask if I'm gonna be ok. And just when all is quiet this song comes blaring into my head, I'm so very grateful as it calmed me down and helped me to rest and slow down the racing thoughts. God Is Great so never be afraid he's always with us and loves us no matter your situation. Thanks Chrissy and Tom for writing this song and thank you God for bringing it to my mind at just the right time, peace to you all.

the initial lyrics was actually written by Billy Steinberg and Chrissie made changes to it - mainly made it less soft or poetic.

This song was written by Chrissie Hynde to/for her son. Yes, it does indeed mean all those things that everyone who posts says it makes them feel. But this song was specifically a song from a mother to her son.
-
The song is about the singer standing by her love as he went through drug problems.
