I'm pretty sure this song reflects a moment in one's life when they realize they're tired of everything they've been doing. Maybe it's not getting them anywhere, or they've given up on their dreams. To me, it's basically about realizing you settled in life and you can see in the people that you surround yourself with and call your friends.
The song still has hope though. The end marks a change in pace. Maybe something or someone came into this person's life and inspired them to make a change and to not settle. Hence the "I know you're waiting for me on the other side." The other side symbolizing hope.
